Does anyone have a list of (or know where I can find a list) of the individuals killed & fought in the Battle at Clouds Creek. I have ancestors that lived within walking distance of there and would love to know the names of all the people who were killed and who fought.

thank you,
Melanie Ward

On the Patriot side, those involved in this skirmish were those in Edgefield County Militia, Capt. Stirling Turner's Company.

You might find some material in the County Court records, such as if widows asked the County for support for themselves or minor children.

Other indications would be County estate files ca. late November - December 1781.

It is at the County level that militia lists and records were made, requiring an in-person search. There may be material from the County in the State Archive.

Good hunting,
Jade

A great reference is the Draper Manuscripts. I have a copy of one of the documents, "The John Langford Letter."

Hi again Melanie,

I will check the John Langford Letter to see if it mentions your Ward ancestor.

In the meantime, send me a note (at Mike.Presnell.net) so that I have your email address and I can provide you an electronic copy of that document.

r/Mike
