In the 1800s there were a lot of men named Green Berry or Greenbury. Was there someone famous by this name? Why was this name so popular?

I too find this name on the family tree. Greenberry and Greenbury, and my last name is Atteberry which makes it very strange! There are places in Mo. and Ill. that also relate to the name...

Have no idea why Greenbury/Greenberry got popular in the l800's, one of my wife's GGF's was Greenbury Cuthbert Owens, b. l837. In the LDS there are something like 18-19 Greenbury Owens born about that time none of the listings are him. Did notice that he didn't stick that name on any of his sons.

I too am looking for information on......"Greenberry" Miller, who married Mary Tate. I am also researching the Native American proof of Cherokee, Choctaw, or Cree. Do you have any information on these people?

I have several Greenberrys in my tree as well. Found it interesting that some believe it connected to Native Americans. Anyone have any more info on this name?
