I've not had any problems or error messages when dealing with GenSmarts, and over the last 4 months, I've had to do 2 new installs of and reinstall 3 times (due to changing around my home office/new computers/reformatting drives -- all of which had nothing to do with RM). And I've been using GenSmarts for several years now and never once had a problem with it.
If you do want to check further, though, I'd suggest contacting the GenSmarts people directly. They're quick to reply to customers, and they also have a GenSmarts Support Message Board.
I hope you're able to resolve the problem. I love GenSmarts, and think it's one of the best programs created to help genealogists, and to work with about any genealogy software out there. Those guys are geniuses!
