Hello. My great-great-grandfather James Fergusson married Margaret Lyall 24 Dec 1858, Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland and had 4 (perhaps 5 *) children all born in Haddington, East Lothian:

George William Fergusson born 16 Dec 1864

Elizabeth Jane FERGUSSON born 26 Dec 1859

John FERGUSSON born 11 Oct 1862

Jane FERGUSON Christened 5 Feb 1859 **

George William Fergusson was my Grandfather. He grew up in the Orkney Islands (on the Island of Hoy) where he supposedly lived with an uncle. He subsequently ended up in Berlin Germany where he was a voice teacher and opera singer. He was incarcerated in the Rhuleben concentration camp for 3.5 years when WWI broke out. My father Eugene Stuart Fergusson was born 9 Sept 1914 in Berlin Germany. In 1919 George William arrived in this country with his wife Ethel Ostrander and son. They lived in New York City. George William died in 1949. His son Eugene Stuart Married Sara Hahn in 1945 and had 2 kids, my sister Sara Jean (1948) and myself, George Stuart, in 1953. My sister doesn't have any children, I have 2, Colin Stuart aged 22 and Elizabeth Kathleen aged 20. We all currently live in Whitefield Maine.

Rumor has it that John Fergusson went to sea and turned up in New York City sometime in the early 1920's, if only for a visit. I know nothing about any of my other relatives.

I'm interested in extending my family tree in both directions! Any information would be appreciated!

George-

* Family oral history states there was a 5th son Robert Fergusson who ended up in Chicago Illinois US in the early part of this century.

** IGI records give Jane FERGUSON's parents as James William Ferguson and Margaret Lyall, same marriage date. I can only assume they are the same couple.

Stuart Fergusson: Connecting with life for nearly 90 years

By Lucy L. Martin

"I haven't led a terribly active life," says 87-year-old E. Stuart Fergusson, sitting in his weathered North Whitefield home, a 65-acre tree farm on Clary Lake. A conversation with this eccentric man whose life spans the 20th century reveals, at its core, a quest to connect over great distances despite the constraints of time and place.

Employed by the syndicate Acme Newspictures in 1939, the young photographer "stood on a damn rooftop for four hours" to capture on film a New York landmark - the George Washington bridge. Double exposed, the picture shows streams of cars, in liquid lines of light, returning to the city on Fourth of July night. The New York Herald Tribune published it as a full-width, half page spread
I thought this might help.

That article is about my father :) But thank you just the same, for making the effort. I have not made any progress on my search though to be honest, I haven't applied myself much for a few years.

In due time..

Hello George,
My name is Martha Naomi Archambault (Selling). I was born March 1964 in Bangore Maine.
Youre sister,Sara Jean was 16 at the time of my birth and is the name on my birth certificate.I have wondered my whole life where she could be,what she looked like,if we were similiar.
I have called her,and recieved voice mail, and finally left my contact information.
I now live in Great Barrington Mass, and my daughter, April, chose of all college's The University of Maine where she is a Freshman.
You wrote Sara has no children,so I am sure that this is a surprise/shock,for that I can only apolgize for,but for me my Biological family/info has been a driving force since my early teens.Only when they opened the adoption records Jan 2nd of 2009,could I begin my search in earnest.
I was vague in my message to youre sister, unsure of her circumstances. If as far as I get,is finding out she is well, and knowing more of you,I will have to live with that.
I hope you respond.I will answer all questions, my email is Longmonday@verizon.net
(860) 841-1452
I am sending a picture of my daughter and I,as well as two paintings I have done.
Martha
