Through the Scott Co., VA marriage in 1872 of Eramus E. STARNES and Martha "Jane" HILL, I am related to
two separate DARNELL lines. Both their mother's maiden name are DARNELL.

I would like to determine if it the same family.

Descendants of Dr David Darnall

Generation No. 1

1. DR DAVID1 DARNALL was born 1648 in MD?, and died 1702 in Richmond Co. , VA. He married
MARGRITT.

Notes for DR DAVID DARNALL:
David was in St. Mary's Co. MD in 1686. On May 4, 1686, it was shown that he was under a bond of peace. On
that date some men were released "...from any charge that might be brought against David Darnall and his
supposed and pretended wife and children & etc...". Later David removed to Virginia at the official request of
the Maryland authorities. This seems to be a part of the religious turmoil that existed in both Maryland and
Virginia because the Roman Catholic Church was recognized in Virginia. Both David Darnall and "Parson" John
Waugh were militant non-conformists. David even named his youngest son Waugh. Since it was David who bore
the brunt of persecution/prosecution, it seems likely that Waugh knew when to stop fighting and David didn't.

David left Maryland in 1686. He was in Stafford County Virginia in 1689 and removed to Richmond County
Virginia buying land there in 1691. His estate inventoried there on June 30, 1702.

After David's death, Margritt named all four sons in a deed that she filed February 1703.

Emigration: Notes for David Darnall:
[Radcliff.ged]

Listed as Dr. David Darnall in most genealogies. David Darnall was in St. Mary's Co. Maryland by 1686 and
was in constant trouble with the Maryland authorities over religious issues, being described by some as a
militant non-conformist. This issue seems to be about his wife being a Quaker and his defense of Quakers in the
state of Maryland. This also involved Parson John Waugh, for whom David obviously named his youngest son.
At the strong request of Maryland authorities, David moved to Stafford Co. Virginia in 1689 and then to
Richmond Co. Virginia in 1691. His estate was inventoried on June 30, 1702. Dr. Darnall's origin is still
unknown, but assumed to be somewhere in England.

He married Margritt MORGAN, Before 1678 in St. Mary's Maryland.

33 Margritt MORGAN. Born Circa 1658. Died 1724.

Margaritt last name was listed as MORGAN and she was the mother to Morgan DARNELL born in 1678 and
married to Dr. David DARNELL. ®26

History: Notes for Margaret:
[Radcliff.ged]

Her maiden name is sometimes listed as "Mott", this from various internet sources, but my guess might be
"Waugh" or Morgan, and she could be the sister of Parson, John Waugh, based on the names of one of her sons.
The name Morgan is used extensively in this family.

Children of David Darnall and Margaret are:

i. Morgan Darnall, born 1678 in St. Marys Co., Maryland; died July 01, 1726 in Tin Pot Run, King George Co.,
Virginia; married (1) Elizabeth E. (Duncan) Abt. 1703 in Virginia Abt. 1703 in St. Marys Co., Maryland.
ii. David Darnall170, born 1680 in St. Marys, Maryland171,172; died 1741 in Spostsylvania Co.?,
Virginia173,174.
iii. Joseph Darnall174, born 1682 in St. Marys Co., Maryland175,176177,178.
iv. Waugh Darnall178, born 1684 in St. Marys Co., Maryland179,180; died July 07, 1726 in Richmond Co.,
Virginia181,182; married Elizabeth Bronaugh in Richmond Co., Virginia182.

Notes for Waugh Darnall:
[Radcliff.ged]

Waugh Darnall's will was removed from King George Co. during the Civil War and taken to safety. This record
book was eventually found in New York in the 1920s, but is now missing. His will was transcribed and
preserved. In the will he names his wife and children and states that if his wife dies, he would want the
Bronaugh family to raise his children.

Notes for Elizabeth Bronaugh:
[Radcliff.ged]

The daughter of Jeremiah Bronaugh.

Chuck, thank you for your wonderful post on Darnall, Darnell, Starnes, and Hill. Regrettably, I know nothing of the Starnes or Hill lines, but you may have helped me immensely with the search for my Darnell roots.

I'm descended from John Morgan Darnell, who, according to the book "Scott County and Its People, Vol. I," was born in NC in 1810, moved to Scott County about 1830 and married Rebecca Guthrie. One of their eight children was named Raleigh Houston Darnell, who also was my direct ancestor.

I would guess that my John Morgan Darnell was a son of Raleigh Darnell/Darnall (who was born in NC in 1777), and brother to Edward Darnell who married Rebecca Gibson in 1836 -- but I can't definitely make the connection. Do you have any evidence to show that my guess is correct?

Would appreciate any input on this question. Thanks!

"Descendants of Dr. DARNALL" on the internet lists Morgan's wife as Elizabeth BRONAUGH?

But " Ancestors of Charles Ward RADCLIFF" on the internet has Morgan's wife as Elizabeth E. DUNCAN bc 1703.

Also has Elizabeth BRONAUGH as Waugh DARNALL's wife.

Looks like the latter is correct?

Is Morgan's wife Elizabeth E. DUNCAN?
