I am searching for any info on the NEEDHAM family in North Carolina. My g-grandfather, John Wesley NEEDHAM, was born 24 Oct 1884 in Ashe Co., NC. His father, Alfred Lewis NEEDHAM, was born in 1847 in Ramseur, Randolph Co., NC.

John Wesley NEEDHAM married Sally Ann Sturgill of NC.
Alfred Lewis NEEDHAM married Margaret Ann Gibson of Macon Co., NC. I believe that in addition to John Wesley they had 3 other children...Dewey NEEDHAM, Eva NEEDHAM ( possibly Odessa Eva), and Lillie NEEDHAM.

Thank you so much for all of your info on the Needham's of Randolph Co.! I am attending a NEEDHAM family reunion, of the descendents of John Wesley NEEDHAM, August 1, in PA. Everyone will be thrilled to see this new info.

I have one question regarding the children of Alfred Lewis NEEDHAM. I of course knew about John Wesley NEEDHAM as he was my g-grandfather. I was also aware of Emery NEEDHAM. Have you ever heard of any additional children? Possibly Dewey NEEDHAM, Eva (possibly Odessa Eva) NEEDHAM, or Lillie NEEDHAM?

Again, thank you very much.

Notes for MARTIN LUTHER NEEDHAM:

There is another grave in Old Mt. Olivet cemetery, for an A. M. Needham 1887-1887. This was probably an infant child of Emma and Martin L. Needham.

The Needham children were quite young when Martin died, and they were "farmed out" or basically indentured to work for the Wrens in Brower township. The name shows as a witness/bondsperson in documents. (from Karen Coble)

Elizabeth Needham b. 1818 and Stephen Decatur Richardson b. 1819 were my great-grandparents. I am seeking names and dates for Stephen Decatur Richardson's parents. I suspect it's right under my nose but can't seem to find it in the Randolph Co area. I will gladly share my information. Thanks, Bill

Hi! Stephen Decatur Richardson was a son of John Richardson (c1787 - aft 1830) and Susannah Dowd (1792-1848). Susannah is buried at Old Mt. Olivet Cemetery in southeastern Randolph Co. John Richardson was a son of William (died 1805) & Margaret Richardson of Moore Co. NC. It isn't known what happened to John:
from letter, March 1981, from Lawrence W. Routh (Greensboro, NC)
"There is a well-established verbal historical fact that John Richardson, the husband of Susannah, loaded his wagon in 1830 and left for South Carolina to trade. He was never heard of again by his family. What happened to him remains a mystery to this day." (John was on the 1830 census for Randolph Co. NC)
"Susannah Dowd, the daughter of a neighbor, Patrick Dowd, the 4th of 11 children of the wealthy Loyalist and Tory of the Revolutionary period, Connor Dowd, the Irish emigrant and his wife, Mary Shields, a widow." [was Overton or Dickerson her maiden name?]
Among sources that Lawrence gave for information on John & Susannah Richardson's family was a Family Bible in possession of Clinton Richardson, Seagrove, NC.
