I wonder if you are Terry McDonald. Shall we consider George Washington Morey married Catherine Sugar Abt. 1847? He was B: NY F: CT M: CT. In various censuses he was: 1860 aged 39, 1870 aged 52, and 1880 aged 61 leading to a birth Abt. 1818

Eugene Rensselaer Morey was b. 30 Dec 1857 Jackson, Tioga, PA, USA married Abt. 1886 possibly Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA Sarah Tichnor and d. 26 May 1914 Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA.

Kenneth Calvin Morey was b. 20 Dec 1899 Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA m. Winifred Fairclough b. 20 Apr 1904 NY, USA d. 12 Feb 1997 Truxton, Cortland, NY, USA

Looking at Moreys B: NY F: CT M: CT we do not have many options. Here is one:

1818 Dexter A MOREY M B 11 May 1818 George MOREY Elizabeth BENTLEY Anne MEYERS B: NY F: CT M: CT Lebanon Madison NYNW USA BIR KLN Eliza Bentley Morey Forum

I consider KLN Eliza Bentley is KLN RI George, the problem here being Dexter A Morey b. 11 May 1818 stymies George Washington Morey being born the same year unless they were twins.

Next is your George Morey b. Abt 1818, location unknown. If he were KLN Eliza Bentley he was born Lebanon, Madison, NY, USA:

NYNW is my way of dividing NY into areas (North West in this case).

Next is Charles William Morey 1850 aged 27, 1860 aged 37, 1880 aged 57, and 1900 aged 77 matching 15 Jan 1823, place of birth hard to determine:

I think KLN Esther Copley is KLN RI George. I am pretty certain it is. But (always but); David Thompson Morey was b. 27 Jan 1798 NH, USA, not CT, USA:

1798 David Thompson MOREY M B 27 Jan 1798 James MOREY Rachel THOMPSON Nancy BURDICK Orford Grafton NH USA BIR KLN RI George Morey Forum

Does it not drive you crazy? Rensselaer is generally a KLN RI Roger Mowry name.

I do not think we got anywhere did we? Your Kenneth Calvin Morey was drafted for the first war:

Who were his Morey children?

Dear Terry

It has been awhile. Every scrap of incoming Morey data is keyed into the Morey database and meticulously scrutinised. None of the water flowing under the Morey Bridge has carried an inkling of your family. Yours is still up river or in clouds.

I looked at all the Moreys of 235 spellings B: CT and living in NY, USA. Garry Stillson Morey 04 May 1811 was recorded as George Morey where FOL = CT CEN 1860 653 1062. His father was David Seymour B: CT and living in NY, USA, but your George Washington Morey was found where FOL = PA CEN 1860 000 333

1853 Lucien C MOREY M B 1860 aged 06
1857 Eugene Rensselaer MOREY M B 1860 aged 03

There are 3166 records where DT = 1850 aged in PA, USA and NY, USA. George Morey, Catherine Sugar and Augusta Morey should come up in this search. This will find both the births and the census location of the 1583 people. I will sort it on YR.

Three of us have been working on a Maurer family today, one in Colorado, one in Ohio, and me in New Zealand. Here where FOL = OH CEN 1850 653 714 we have KLN Eva Fickes. This family arrived on the Edinburgh captained by James Russell from Rotterdam, Nederland, in a mob of over 300 Palatine 15 Sep 1749. These Maurers were De Maurer in France. In this instance De Maurer means living in a stone masonry house. They migrated from France in the 1600s to Alsace Lorraine, later into Germany then down into Nederland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana:

Here is Napoleon Bonaparte Morey B: ME F: ME M: ME 1850 aged 22 blacksmith Machias, Washington, ME, USA and three months later miner Grass Valley, Yuba, CA, USA:

The Catherine Morey by herself in Fayette, Seneca during 1850 is a mystery. It might be George Morey was in the west and moved back to NY, USA at a certain time avoiding all 1850 USA censuses

I have him B: NY F: CT M: CT. Do you agree with this?

Did you ever find the Kenneth Calvin Morey family in the 1920 and 1930 censuses?

When was Elva Hobart born, married and when did she die?

What was Winifred Fairclough’s USA SSDI number?

Did your mother in law Lois Jane Morey migrate to California?

Geoffrey,
First of all I want to thank you and anyone else who has had a hand in all the Morey genealogy in your data bank what a great thing you are doing for all the generations to come!
the oldest child Augusta was born in 1849/50 in NY so they must be there somewhere and Sidney a year later so they must be hiding well LOL !
as for Kenneth's wife Elva Hobart she was born in Onondaga county NY town of Spafford Feb.12,1889 d.in 1952 and married in 1921/22 I am getting info from daughter gladys so will let you know the dates when she get's them to me.
Winifred Farclough/Morey,s soc.# 118-26-7492 born April 20,1904 d. Feb.12,1997 in Truxton NY I have her birth ser. and is has her as a male born 1905 I tryed to get it changed but NY state wont let me now she has died even though I have her school records to prove the fact.
I have not found Kenneth Morey himself in a 1920 census record's I even looked around the Spafford area where he would have met Elva and had no luck ?
I have the 1880 census with George & Catherine and his parents were from Ct.hers were from New Jersey but looks like they were both born in NY
Again Thank You

I was looking at the 1850 census records and this might be a leap but in Cayuga county Ny town of Summerhill I have a George W. Morey born abt 1817 and wife Mary born about 1827
her name could be Mary Catherine ? The 1850 census also has them married with in that year.
I then looked in Cayuga county for other moreys and found what could be brothers with a Joseph in his 80's and a Rebeca in her 70's from RI pos. parents?
I then looked for Suger's in the area and found Sager's but no Sugers could the U be an A
of corse this is all a mabey but what do you all think ?

Dear Terry

Thank you for your message. When I look back at all the airmail letters sent and received by Morey Researchers and the laborious method by which data was collected, I grimace.

The greatest Australian Morey researcher is a Presbyterian Minister. He wrote to every Morey in the Aussie phone book and asked them where they fitted. He did not get one reply. Later he came across an illegitimate Australian girl looking for her Morey birth mother, who had received letters from many Moreys answering her enquiry and explaining why she did not fit.

The basis of Aussie Morey research is fixed. There is a bit of rivalry between Australia and New Zealand, and each is ready to wind up the other. We call it under arm bowling, they shudder.

We New Zealand Moreys worked together and very soon knew the clan of nearly every Kiwi Morey. We have electoral rolls dating from 1840 names addresses and occupation of men who owned land. All our Morey families were still in England at this stage. Men got the franchise in 1879. Women got it in the early 1900s

Many great achievements took place in America the Morey Notebook Series of 1200 pages was one of them. We are still digitising it right now. Thanks to a KLN RI Roger Morey.

I unashamedly use the Morey clanning system as I created it.

The English Moreys became encouraged by the Aussies and Kiwis and are now striding into things. I have been to England several times and sat in a church where my Williams ancestor was vicar 400 years ago and in the nearby Registry Office are the books with parchment pages leather bound with brass corners, and handwriting of my ancestor christening, marrying, and burying parishioners until a change of script signified my Malachi Williams was buried.

New York is a terrible State for genealogists.

Thanks for SSN 118 26 7492. I guessed it was her, but needed to close the loop:

By a long broken route from Genoa, Cayuga, NY, USA we find another Morey B: NY F: CT M: CT Abt. 1819 son of Benjamin Morey and Mary:

I bent quite a bit of mother’s silverware to get this far. I wonder if Mary was Mary DeWitt. It was not normal for people to have a second Christian name in the early 1800s, but nothing is normal in New York. I waltzed a few years ago into a registry office in Connecticut where the girls were busily examining their finger nails. They jumped to attention when they heard my accent. They thought I was a Limey but they were only 12,000 miles out. They soon had their genealogical cards out for me to peruse.

I suppose if you paid enough money you could emasculate poor Winifred Fairclough, though I thought her marriage certificate would have cast away any shadow of doubt. Her daughter Lois Jane Morey has passed away now or she could have tried. But these registrars need to be very sure you know. I have a Morey acquaintance somewhere in the mid west I think. She created Pambra ( Pamela Morey Brassieres for girls with breast cancer), whose sister got her mother’s death date wrong and cannot change it on the USA SSDI. You know not everyone should be allowed to change their mother’s date of death. It is not normal. I hope you have the same sense of humour as I.

At some stage when we were pulling American census we decided to use; B: XX F: YY M: ZZ. It works a treat but has to be very precise. When I pulled the entire 5000 Moreys in the world it was only going to take about six months to crack the lot on the Commodore 64. 25 years later with only 279,225 Morey records it may take slightly longer.

Samuel DeWitt Morey born 1819 B: NY F: CT M: CT to be as precise as any Morey can married Eliza Of Lansing B: PA

Their first recorded son was Charles Morey b. 1842 Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA, if I extrapolate correctly and died Aft. 1900 (the last census in which he is found) Ludlowville, Tompkins, NY, USA. Our NTS: Buried: Pine Grove Cemetery no dates. In 1900 married 32 years one child, who must have been living but hidden in the Morey maze and not yet found.

His dear wife or ‘er indoors depending on his mood at the time was Sylvia A Of Genoa who died 31 Oct 1905 and was buried: Pine Grove Cemetery, Ludlowville, Tompkins, NY, USA aged 61 years 5 months 7 days, which if my Kiwi mathematics is right was 24 Apr 1844 extrapolated to Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA

I have always promised to pull the pin on the Morey Forum when we crack her Morey ancestry. Luckily, but not for Constance, we have not done it yet.

The Morey book I am waiting to print is called Morey Migration. It is already only 20,610 pages long. I am not going to bet on its length if we all crack these Moreys.

An old mate of mine from way back commonly known as Ole Sock (Ehoa tena ra koe?) is also known as William Slater Mowry or Bill Mowry (KLN RI Roger) has said I should print it in several volumes. I will be well dead by then unless the New York State un-girds its loins and shows all, joins the Moreys of the East to the mid west.

Emeline Morey b. 1844 Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA, was another child of Samuel DeWitt Morey and Eliza Of Lansing

Benjamin Morey b. 1847 Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA, was another child of Samuel DeWitt Morey and Eliza Of Lansing. He married Harriet Of Lansing (NY CEN 1900 1169 125 teamster m23y 2 ch). Grace A Morey 1900 aged 21 B: NY F: NY M: NY was one of their children. Harriet Of Lansing was 1900 aged 40 (1859) B: NY. I cannot find the other child yet. The parents were Benjamin Morey and Hattie which I bent to Harriet.

I am surprised your Morey clan is moving the way it is. I expected it to come out of Rhode Island from Roger or George Morey tending more towards George, but I think you may have to learn German. Of course Samuel DeWitt Morey and your George Washington Morey are not yet proven brothers. They link as B: NY F: CT M: CT, Lansing and Genoa mixed up with Pennsylvania and the Palatine French Huguenot German 7% of the American population in 1790.

Religion and politics cause great upheaval. French Huguenots were forced into Alsace Lorraine and several generations later into the palatinate counties of Germany. These were administered by a count palatine, originally the direct representative of the sovereign, under whom the people starved.

Ann Morey b. 1849 Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA, was another child of Samuel DeWitt Morey and Eliza Of Lansing. Morey girls in New York are worse to track than men.

Samuel DeWitt Morey b. 01 Sep 1851 Lansing, Tompkins, NY, USA, was another child of Samuel DeWitt Morey and Eliza Of Lansing. The scraps of data I have on him have created a real problem for me. We may need to go back to original as the silver teaspoons I have been bending are beginning to look like forks.

I have a problem with Mary M Osmun due to duplication, and Frances V Depew b. 24 Jun 1865 d. 13 Feb 1888

I have Mary M Osmun married to Samuel DeWitt Morey and Myron M Morey

Mary M Osmun was a daughter of Jeremiah Isaac Osmun and Angeline DeKamp

Myron M Morey b. 1873 d. 1934 has been mixed up with Myron DeWitt Morey.

Geoffrey, You seem to be the expert on the Morey family. In the 1850 & 1860 Censuses for Lansing, Tompkins Co., New York, there was a Peter & Deborah Morey and their children, etc. I was wondering if you knew the maiden name of Deborah? I thought she might be a Ryder.
