Looking for descendants of Margaret Monaghan married Lewis Charles Peake on 2 November 1864, Mountain St. Methodist Church, Montreal, PQ. I believe Margaret is the sister of my 2nd great grandfather George Monaghan born 1832, Ireland. Reasons for believing so: My George's children were all baptised in Mountain St. Methodist. George's wife my 2nd great grandmother was Sarah Baker. Sarah's sister Francis "Fanny" Jane Baker was one of the witnesses to the marriage of Lewis Peake and Margaret Monaghan, I do not believe that to be a coincidence. One of my aunts told me that George's father she believes was Sean in galic and "John" Monaghan in english, a John Monaghan is buried from Mountain St. Methodist in 1847 and a James Monaghan was present at the burial. My great grandfather named a son John and one James. I am TRYING to find my George Monaghan Sr.'s family, trying to confirm relationships, if you know this family/lineage or you descend from it (Lewis & Margaret) please contact me. Oh, and with my great grandpa George Monaghan Jr. he changed the spelling somewhere along the way to "Monahan"

Thanks in advance,
Sharron

Surnames: MONAHANS AND PEAKES
I am descended from the Peakes and Monahans. I think we were in contact, briefly, once. I have not found more about the history of the Monahans, other than they were born in Kilkenny. I do have a fair amount of info on the sibs of John and Margaret, and the children of those sibs. Will have to bring it out, again. Not hard, just have to get it together. Email me at jvmcashel@hotmail.com, so that I can forward it to you more easily. Judy

Hello Sharron:

I noticed that you are posting on the Toronto/York is it because they moved from Montreal to Toronto? If so do you happen to know what area they moved to?

Yes, they did move to Toronto. They settled there. Is it the Peakes or the Monahans, that you are connected with? Some of the Peakes went to Ontario generally. The Monahans (besides my Margaret who married Lewis Peake) went to Ontario, generally. Robert Monahan went to USA, eventually, with wife and children.. Some stayed in Montreal. PLEASE, PLEASE, Email me at my own EMail address, as I don't always seem to get replies, or notifications on this site. jvmcashel@hotmail.com

Surnames: MONAHAN NICHOLSON
Did I ever correct that our Monahans were born in Enniskillen,Fermanagh? I see that I, wrongly, put Kilkenny (where another branch of my family came from.) I believe that your George Wm.,and my Margaret, were the children of Thomas Monahan whose other name MONAHAN NICHOLSON may have well have been John (Sean), and of course, Margaret Nicholson.
