Surnames: Soblet, Sublett, Magruder, Martain, Brian
I noticed a number of you are researching Subletts. None of mine were born in Powhatan or were buried here, but my Sublett line has been traced back to Abraham SOBLET b. 4 Dec 1648 in Sedan, France. He married Susanne BRIAN.

I have info on only one child:

Pierre-Louis b. in Sedan, Champane, France. D. 24 Nov 1754 in Cumberland, Va. He married Marte MARTAIN b.21 Jan 1682 in Sedan, Ardennes, France.

I have info on one son:

Lewis b. 9 Apr 1728 in Henrico, Va. He married Francis Hill MAGRUDER 3 Jun 1749 in Manakin Towne, Cumberland, VA.

Their children:

Archer
William
James
Lewis, Jr.
Frances

Hope this helps someone.

Hello...Sublett is the "new" of Soblett. Soblett is French Huguenot and I, too, am of descent of Abraham Soblett. Sublett and Soblett are names one and the same. We can exchange information if you would like.

FYI-Powhatan was not formed until 1777. Manakin Towne and Subletts tavern were originally in Cumberland Co but now are in Powhatan on modern day Rt 711 also know as Hugeunot Trail. There are several old churches in that area with French names in the cemetaries. If he died in 1754 within 10 miles of Manakin Towne, he is now in Powhatan.
