I am looking for information about african american family. My direct ancestor is John Gaston, grew up in the Fort Lawn, South Carolina area, left the area in the 1890s and came to Charlotte, NC area. Not sure of parents' names (Malinda and William Gaston?).

Have you checked the Salve Schedules that were done in 1850, 1860 and 1879?

Hello,

I noticed you had a Hicklin list in this informaiton. I would love to share information about the Hicklin. Also, I have relatives from Chester, SC. Do you have any Mobley, Stinson or Blake in your lineage.

Also, we had a Rev. John Gaston, he lived in my old neighorbhood. My research shows many of the family living in my community are from Chester and Lancaster, Sc. They moved to be close to the RR.

Jill,

I am aware of a Rev. John G. Gaston that was born in 1917 in Chester South Carolina to Charles and Sarah Jane McClurkin and died in Salisbury, North Carolina area in 2001. My father has not indicated that this person is related to us. Unfortunately, my great-grandfather, John Wesley Gaston did not talk much about his background. The family story is that he was running away from the law when he left South Carolina in 1901-1902 and therfore may not have wanted to let his family know who his people was for fear of law enforcement.

As far as the Hicklin family connection, I have a sister-in-law, who grew up in the Apex/Raleigh, North Carolina with that last name. As far as I know, there are no Mobleys, Stinsons or Blakes in our family lineage. But I'm not done with learning who is married into our family.
