Saw your message because I was pulling up Lane County info - your info states Elijah Baker was buried in Mt. Vernon in Grant County - are you sure it's not the Mt Vernon Cemetary in the Jasper area where he died. I live close to there and would be happy to go look to see if he's there if you'd like.

Hi,I'm not possitive about where Elijah Baker was buried. I would be very appreciative if you would look at The Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Jasper. He was suppose to be a Lieutenant in the Civil War. Thank you for offering!! My e-mail address is: athomas@athenet.net

Re: Baker Family in Harlan, Kentucky

Surnames: baker, rose, polly
I, too, am a descendant of an Elijah Baker from Kentucky. As far as I know. Elijah Baker (Bn. Feb 1880) was the son of Craig Baker (circa 1859...possibly March 25, 1859) and Rebecca Rose (1859-Sept. 9, 1916). Elijah's siblings include Elisha Baker (Mar 7, 1886-Nov.7-1957), George W. (May 25, 1888-November 29, 1920), Dillard Baker (Aug.17, 1896 - Aug. 17, 1972), and Bettie B. (bn. 1892 (?)).

I have located a Craig Baker (the only one I can find in KY censuses) who was born in Harlan, KY. Christine Thomas, in a precvious 'Baker board" message, listed a Craig Baker (who I am not sure is THE Craig Baker I am related to) who had a brother named named Elisha (bn. 1853 Harlan KY) and another brother named Elijah (bn. 1855, Harlan, KY). I find it quite a coincidence that my Great-grandfather (Dillard Baker) had brothers named Elijah and Elisha, and that the only Craig Baker I can find in KY had brothers named Elijah and Elisha. Could it be that Craig named his children after his own brothers?

Please let me know what you think. These individuals were from Whitley/Harlan/Bell/Carpenter, KY. I have no pictures of these people, and would LOVE some. Also, any information ANYONE could provide would help me out a lot. Incidently, Dillard married a Myrtle Hamblin, who had Arnold, Christine, Albert, Arvalee, and Gladys Baker. Rebecca Rose's parents were Nelson Rose and Elizabeth Polly/Pauley/Polley.

Thanks!
