Will be visiting Ballarat in Feb to do some research and was wondering if anyone has access to cemetry records or can advise how I find out where certain graves are.
Grew up in Ballarat and have ancestors in Ballarat - Bungaree - Miners Rest areas. Looking to add to my files.
Researching the following names:
Benson
Gregg

Any info appreciated

That is really kind of you but don't think you know what you are offering. I have MANY ancestors in the Ballarat old and new cemetries and want to visit all their graves. Do you have a disc or are the sites available online? If you are still happy do do some for me I would be happy to give you my private email if that would be easier. I am not flying down until Feb so no rush.
Thanks so much
Donna

You can find them here:
www.ballaratcemeteries.com.au/online_database.htm

There are several pges for each of these names, some quite recent but some very old ones too. Each has a link showing the location on the map, if known.

These ones are at Bungaree:
McRAE George Clarke, Elvira Florence Jane
Email via www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ausvsac/Bungaree.htm for a headstone photo

Happy hunting!
:)

Hi Donna
Who are you missing? Maybe I can find them in the index (might have died in another area)
:)

Thanks again for your offer of help - trying to get organised before I go visit the area. Can't seem to find George McRae. He arrived in Australia (SA) in 1854 with 6 of his children - his wife "Janet" died of smallpox on the voyage. He died in Dowling Forest just outside of Ballarat but no idea where he is buried. Checked Dowling Forest cemetry names on line so Ballarat was next best option. I have his death Cert.
Thanks again
