Burnison in Southern Ontario

Surnames: Burnison, Jeffrey
My name is Mark Adam Burnison, I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

-My dad is Barry Alfred Burnison.
-My grandfather was George Gary Burnison.
-My great-grandfather was Ezra Burnison, probably from Lincoln County. Lived in St. Catherines. All I know about him is that he was a well-respected farmer who helped build the Welland Canal at some point (In the '30s) with his team of horses.

That is all I know as far a direct lineage goes.

I have 3 brothers (Chris, Dan, Eddy). My dad has 2 sisters and 2 brothers, (My aunts Debbie, Heather, My uncles Dup (Gary Burnison) and Doug (Douglas).

My grandfather had 3 sisters, and 1 brother. Boyce, Evelyn, Margerie, something like that, I'm not sure the name of his brother.

My great-grandfather had one sister named Alice, she married Harry Jeffrey. He had many brothers.

My dad says that SOMEHOW I am related to a Samuel Burnison, but it was from way far back.

I know that I have relatives in the USA too.

I hope we Southern Ontario Burnisons can find each other.

My mother is Marjorie Ellen Vanderlee(maiden name burnison)
Her brothers were Gary, Boyce
Her sister is Evelyn.
Her father, my grandfather is Ezra Burnison. Ezra's wife, my grandmother was Leticia Burnison. They along with Boyce are interred in a cemetary on Hwy 20..perhaps your grandfather Gary is intered there too... Apparently my grandfather Ezra, his mother may have been named Maggie or Margaret drummond. Apparently she is of Native American blood, full mohawk blood. I have one picture of her, well actually my mom has it...Ezra used to work for GM at one time. He lived on ninth st louth in st kitts...Owned the property from fourth ave to highway eight...My father and your grandfather used to drive truck together...I remember riding your grandfathers horses and riding in his transport truck to montreal.....I grew up next to them on the farm on ninth st louth and down the road from your grandfather on hwy eight....there are lots of cousins around...even a road somewhere in niagara called burnison's corner...email me at forteriemedicman@hotmail.com and I will give you lots of stories and give what information i can...

Forgot one thing, Ezra (my great-grandfather) was from New York as well. See he was 13 in 1910, that dates his birth to 1897, before they moved, this also complies with what I've learned from my dad. Ezra was the better farmer i'm told, so he stayed back during WW1, which could explain the age change in the other record of him. The other boys joined the war possibly.

I have pics of my family which I will try to post, maybe it will help identify some of these people, should be up in next few days. Keep alert. I know I have pics of Ezra, his wife, but not his father. Possibly more, we are all pack rats.

I am not a BURNISON descendant - but am helping a friend who is - she e-mailed me last night that her grandmother's father was killed in Spain so the WILLIAM BURNISON death record has to be for your family not hers. Am adding all the BURNISON records I have found that must be related to your family. Sorry for any redundancy re: yesterdays post.

I have just found a second EZRA BURNISON son of JAMES & RUBY. By names of children families have to be related.

Margaret Drummond Burnison was not a full-blooded native, nor were either of her parents.
Her father was George Drummond of Ireland, and her mother was Emma Shaw/Book, daughter of Dorothy Shaw, whose parents were United Empire Loyalists, and step-daughter of Adam Book.
The name and origin of her birth father are unknown; possibly he was of First Nations extraction. See Jane Mulkewich's article:
The Aboriginal Connection: from a "capture" story to an unidentified father", FAMILIES (Ontario Genealogical Society), February 2008, pp. 15-17.
(Jane is descended from Mary Jane Drummond Bunston)
Her sister, Martha, was my great-great grandmother. She married John Havens, lived in Ancaster, then in Brantford.
Happy to share more dates & details with you if you need them. Kim Short

Hello Mark,
I am contacting you not with regards to the Burnison name but rather to the Drummond surname.I have been researching this family line for several years. My husband's great great grandmother was Martha Ann Drummond and she was a sister to Margaret Drummond who married your William Burnison. We are related to the same family branch of George Drummond and Emma Shaw (Book).I have extended information on the Drummond family line. Are you the same M. Burnison who submitted the Burnison family tree to ancestry which included the names of Emma Shaw and Dorothy Shaw(Book)--- her mother? If so, then I noticed that you had a picture submitted of Emma Shaw. I am very interested in knowing if you have that picture in your possession or where you may have obtained it as, I would love to get a copy (scanned) or print of it for our family albumn. Also there is another picture submitted of Martha Drummond who died in Hamilton in 1933---this picture is not Martha as Martha died in 1920 in Brantford. I believe that this picture instead is of Mary Jane Drummond who married William Bunston as she died in 1933 in Hamilton. Please email me back regarding my request as I know of no other family member from our branch that I have been responding with who have a picture of Emma. Also if you are at all interested in additional info on the Drummond line, I am more than willing to help. Please email me directly( rather than through the message board) at: marlene_smith11@hotmail .com. Hopefully you are able to help and I will anxiously wait for your reply.
