Need information on William and Harriet GRIFFEE family that lived in Cold Creek Twp, Warren County, IL and Galesburg was their post office. They had five children Charles (b ca1848); Thomas (ca 1850); Lousia (ca 1853); Alice (ca 1858) ; Paradine (ca 1860) and Olive (ca 1868)

There was a large group of GRIFFEE lines living in Warren county at this time... probably most of them were close relatives. William and Harriet can not be found after the 1870 census..... Alice is the only one traceable at this time. What happened to the family ????

Surnames: Griffee
There is an extensive record of the William and Harriet (Wallace) Griffee family under the children and descendents of Joseph Thomas and Rachel (Atkinson) Griffee on this web site. The best information is authored by John Wilder Jones. This lists all of their children and goes to the 5th generation of William and Harriett. William and Harriet and most of their children remained in the Warren IL area for any years.

When you bring up this list you will find that William had several brothers and sisters. One brother, Thomas Scott was married and then died in the civil war. The two sisters Sata and Ann Eilza are listed, but I have not found any additional information on them.

Six of them, James H (and Mary C ?)., Marshall (and Jane Claycomb and then Martha Jane Pedigo), Daniel (and Emily Porter), Mary L (John Frymire), Lucy (Geroge Bruner), and Martha Jane ( David Gillispie) all left the area about 1870 for the west. The boys all came to Kansas over the next years while the three daughters and their families all stayed in the Nodaway Co.Missouri area. I have I have data on all of these families which I would be happy to share.

What is your connection to the family? I am connected through both Marshall and James Hardesty Griffee.

Surnames: Griffee, Gribble
Hello: I'm not sure if it is the same family, but you might look under Gribble. My grandmother was known as Gribble, but I pulled information from 1920 Cen. and Great-grandfather had changed from Griffee to Gribble. He lived in Harrisburg, Illinois. His parents were from England and they were William Edmond and Eliza Ann.
