Looking for my gggrandfather John Andrew McMINN, Think he was born in PA, or GA not sure. He was born in mid 1700's. His father's name was Thomas McMINN. Thomas had 5 children and supported children after wife died. Think her name was Mary (Black). If any one has info I would be willing to share what I have on any of my history. I have been doing research for over 40 years. Thanks and good luck to all.

Janet,
I would love to have any information that you can give me on the McMann/McMinn line. My great grandmother was Mae McMann. Her father was Andrew McMann (McMinn).

Thanks, Mary

Hi Susan,
Cheri and I have been working on both McMinn and Grass.
She is mostly working on Grasse I believe. We did find that Thomas McMinn came to NB in 1803 and a Thomas McMinn disapeared from NS about the same time. He could be related. I checked all the dates and from what I can figure out my John (Andrew) McMinn could have had a brother Thomas about that age. He had other sibblings but only 2 were listed in NS when I checked. I am still trying to get more info.
Sorry I'm so slow.
Janet

I have a copy of the Revolutionary War for Robert McMinn, who serve from Maryland, however, he was born in Chester Co., PA. He is the younger brother of Joseph McMinn, Gov. of Tennessee. Also, I have a copy of a page taken from the family bible of Robert McMINN, Sr. & Sarah HARLAN listing their children and dates of birth. The Bible is in the TN State Library & Archives in Nashville, TN. The McMinn Bible was printed by Alexander Kincaid, His Majesty's Printer in Edinburgh in 1773.

"Account of children born unto Robert & Sarah McMINN

1. Elizabeth born July 26, 1749
2. Martha born 3 May 1752
3. John born Dec. 3, 1754 Dead
4. Margaret born August 22, 1756 Dead
5. Joseph born June 22, 1758
6. George born April 8, 1761
7. Robert born Jan 12, 1764
8. John born August 11, 1766
9. Mary born August 7, 1769
10. Sarah born April 24, 1772

Several spaces below this list in different handwriting is the name Elizabeth born April 1785 (not identified)."

Alma Mosby (now deceased) made a copy of the above at the TN State Library & Archives in Nashville and placed it in the H. B. Stamps Memorial Library, Rogersville, TN.

Robert McMinn (No. 7) was born in Chester Co., PA, moved to Frederick Co., MD with his family when he was young. He served in the Revolutionary War from MD. After the war he lived in Hawkins Co., TN for many years, then moved to Sullivan Co., TN where he died on March 28, 1846. This information was taken from his pension records.

I am looking for anyone interested in this family. Thank you.
