I have information, handed down in my dad's family, about many Vandever/Vander Veer family members. Jacob VandeVeer was born in 1630 in Holland. He married Catherine Brassert, who was born abt 1667 in Salem, N.J. Now, skip down to 1790 census in North Carolina. John Vandever married Jane Irwin/Erwin/Irvin and had 10 children, who are Vincent,Jane, Noah, Elizabeth, William, Sarah, John Franklin, Isabel, Angeline and Martha. Their daughter, Martha, married James Heddens, in Ohio about 1790. James and Martha are my Great Great Grandparents. There are some Vandever's who married Fredericks and this is the source of some of my handed down family history. Anyone with any information about these people, please contact me at JSIDORJ@cs.com

I have very little information about the Vandever family. We are in the same ball park, though! I have information that has been handed down to me, through family. It looks like your John Franklin Vandever must have been a sister to Martha Vandever, and both were the children of John Vandever and Jane Irvin/Irving/ Ervin. The information that I have says John and Jane Vandever moved from North Carolina to Ohio, between 1793 and 1797. Martha was born about 1808 in Ohio. She died in Coffey County, Kansas 1877-1879. Martha married James Heddens and they were my great great grandparents. I have so much information on my father's line and set it aside for a while, as my mother's family is having a reunion and I have been working on that. You are the first person to give me any information about the Vandever family. I do have some very old, handed down in the family, information about the Van de Veer (and other spellings) family when they first came to America from Holland and settled on Long Island, New York, in the 1600s.

I have worked on the Vandeveer history for many years. Mine goes back to Capt. Jacob Jacobsen Vandeveer (1630-1698) who married Katherine Brassert. Their children are Helena, Judith, Elizabeth, William David, Hendrich, Cornelious, Jacob Jr, and John. I have a snag in my history with regards to a John Vandeveer, Sr. who married Mary Justis. I find a record of their marriage, but nothing more. It is at this point that one source takes the line another direction and never gets back to the original Jacob. Records have not survived to verify John's ancestry, so I am stuck. A Goldie Shaffer worked years on this history and could not solve the problem. Her work can be found in the LDS Family Search, but it contains a lot of errors. Other sources are The Vandeveers of NC, KY & IN by Mabel Van Dyke Baer and 1693 Census of the Swedes by Peter Craig and A Calendar of Delaware Wills, New Castle C. DE. The one source that I disagree with is The Vanderfords: Early Settlers of America by Cheryl Lynds Jensen. There are a lot of published sources, but none can solve my problem. I hope you get this message and I would like to hear back from you or anyone else about the Vandeveers.

Joan,
I am working on the line of John Vandever and Jane Irvin of Preble County, Ohio. Have you their parents or siblings, please?

I have tracked their lines pretty thoroughly but not absolutely and would be glad to share what I have in exchange.

I am sorry but I do not have any Irvin Vandever in my family history files. My line is spelled Vandeveer and goes back to Capt. Jacob Jacobsen Vandeveer of Veer Holland.

My Grandfather was from Oklahoma area. His name was Hugh. I believe he would have been born around 1905. If you do have any information about the Van de Ver family coming over, that would be awesome.
Thanks, Deb
