Thanks so much for the information. I have been so frustrated by not being able to locate this cemetery online. I have not been to Orangeburg yet but wanted to know its location; we are planning a trip sometime before long. My mother's mom was from Orangeburg. I understand the family was quite prominent. Have you ever heard of the vanOrsdell's? Cornelious vanOrsdell was a nationally known photographer who had a photography studio in O'burg. My mother's grandmother is supposed to be buried in Sunnyside. Her name was Katherine Bradley vanOrsdell. She died in 1918. I have a copy of the newspaper obit. We have not been able to find death info on Corneilous.
I understand that the VO family lived on Green Street near or across from the Episcopal church. I can't find a church on Green Street.
After Katherine's death, we can find no further mention of the vanOrsdells. The obit said that her husband (Cornelious) had been working in Augusta (not sure whether SC or GA).
Those of us who are researching the VO family are also trying to locate where CM/Katherine's daughter (Maude) is buried. Maude was my mother's mother and she died in 1921. We have been unable to determine where she died and where she is buried. We are thinking she might be buried in Sunnyside with her mother. Her name was Maude Rivers. We do know that in 1919 (when my mom was born) she was living in Panama City, FL. Maude died when my mom was a baby so there is information there. All of Maude's children have died and us grandchildren are not close - in fact, I don't even know some of my first cousins.
Again, thank you for whatever you are able to find out. My email is: firstname.lastname@example.org
. Thanks again - I do appreciate you responding to my note and taking a look at the cemetery.
