My g-g-grandfather David Whittington was born in Clark County VA/W.VA. in 1819. His son John David Whittington was born there in 1864 and moved to Christian County, MO. I will be happy to share any information I have.

Best to my knowledge and research, Thomas Whittington and Sarah Conner married on the Eastern shore and shortly afterwards with the Conner clan and the Orndorff clan migrated west. My part of the family settled in Zepp, Va. and took up farming (it is only on old maps, since it nolonger has a PO.) They had Joshua, John, Elijah, Betty, William, Henry in the late 1700's. William married Susan Drake, they had Joseph 1827, John W. 1832 and Rebecca. John W. married Sarah Rebecca Conner and they had Annie, Carrie, Effabelle, Mary, George, Atwell, Emily, James, Samuel and John. Samuel is my great-grandfather, he was born in 1869 in Zepp. I am trying to locate other descendents of his. I also have alot of other information about other branches of the Whittingtons. Hope we can help each other. my e-mail is jadhoff@starpower.net

the other thing about the Whittington's is the illustrous history about them on the Eastern Shore. Captain William Whittington who was born in 1616 in England was a shipping magnate. He brought people to Northampton Va, which was at that time a bustling place (now there is not much there) He was granted alot of land and married there. His children were born there and he was an important part of the community. I still wonder why after so many years of prosperity one branch of the Whittington's decided to leave security and migrate, maybe they were an adventerous lot. There is also a graveyard outside of Zepp, Va with alot of the Whittington graves dating back I think to the 1700's. I hope that this is helpful.

I hope this helps. I'm still seeking info on my ggrandfather, David J. Whittington born 1844. He had 2 brothers who came with him to Louisiana from Arkansas or Mississippi. I don't know their names. The first census that I can find him on is the 1870 in Caldwell Parish, LA. This is where he died and is buried. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
