Females of "Izey" and "Gettie" are listed on a US census. What are their real first names?
|
Unless you can find documentary evidence you will never know! However Iszy/Isa/Issy can be abbreviations for Isabel/Isabella/Isabelle. Gettie - only guess would be possibly Gertrude. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I though Gettie might be short for Gertrude; however, I had no idea about Izey so I will check out the names of Isabel/Isabella/Isabelle. Thanks again!

Maybe also Izetta or Isolde

Re: Real First Names (surname: Guenther)
Also, are they listed with these same first names on more than one census? Often you'll find someone listed with a different name in different years — maybe one year they used a nickname; the next census year, they didn't.

Re: Real First Names (surname: Guenther)
A further thought, as these would appear to be German names - Gitta is a fairly common shortening for Brigitte and Izey could also come from Isolde, but, as said, how could it ever be proved unless you have an official document?

Thanks everyone for your help - at least I have some ideas on what the names may be and where to look!

LH hit it on the head. We need to find our folks on all available census records. Data on one census record is not etched in stone fact. Dick
