My grandfather was a John Henry Coker, born in Boone County Arkansas on 10/18/1875, and died in Oklahoma on April 26, 1948. Could it be the same John Henry Coker?

YES!! This is the same John Henry Coker. He is burried in Forks-la Garue Cemetery, Dewitt, AR. My grandmother goes to his grave often, he was her great-grandfather. There are many Cokers buried in that cemetery.

I have been to my grandfather's grave in Shamrock, Oklahoma. So, we must be talking about a different John Henry Coker. I know very little about him. I know he had a number of half-brothers and half-sisters that I know nothing about. I don't even know what his parents names were. Thanks anyway.

I am just amazed at how many Coker's there are out there, and it looks like I am not related to any of them!! My family is from Oklahoma and Arkansas, and I know there is a lot of Cherokee blood in our past. Thanks for the reply.

Keith, You are not alone in your amazement of how many Coker's there are, I too thought there couldnt be that many! HA
But.... I am also a descendant of the Arkansas - Oklahoma Coker's, My great great grandparents were Isaac P. and Carol Lizabeth (Henderson) Coker of Arkansas anyway I was always told there was cherokee blood also in my line, have not been able to prove that have hit a dead end with Isaac P Coker but I have also come to learn through Carol Lizabeth Henderson Coker line that there is Choctaw blood even tho I have hit another dead end with her parents William and Nancy (Scantlin) Henderson. I guess what I am trying to say is 'DONT GIVE UP" I've searched my other lines and have been able to trace most of my mothers line's not all but most. So somewhere out there (we are just waiting on them to post it haha) somewhere, someone knows our lines.......Hope you dont give up, I know I wont. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hey You Two ! Have you some how been reading my notes on My Coker family?! Ha'Ha!!
By the way when you said you would never give up looking for you'r Coker Root's : Stuborn & Coker they go hand in hand !!! But, I am sure you already know that.
I too have been going aginst the brick Coker wall till latly!
My Isaac P. Coker (isom) some time from 1871-1930 went on this trip.

Isaac Coker (great grandfather) was born in Oklahoma. He came from a long line of Indian & German families. Most of his clan are born with blond hair & blue eye's ; later in life we all obtain dark hair & eye's. This is a very common trait of the Cherokee Nation. A lot of hisoty books said it was hard too tell the difference from the English Man & the Cherokee !

Any way , From the time of his birth he went too Gorga,Tenn.,Ky., & IN. is were I loose Him.!
The only traces I have found to be TRUE were in KY. In 1916 he married my Great Grandmother Cora Gorge Coker.
The next was in Indiana in a 1920 census. Then In a 1930 census also in Indiana. Here is the the BIG loop for me;. Three week's after the first 1930 census in milton Indiana I have found Cora & childern in a totaly different town & census. You gessed it Isaac (Isom ) was no were to be found. Can't find him at all after that. Most of his kid's I do know were they ended up because one of them was my granfather ( E.E.Coker ).

Here is any interesting thought though ; In the same year my great granparent's were married they also took in a young man named Norman Swede. In the 1930 census He list his father's birth place to be Oklahoma. I know I am missing some-thing in there! My father was told he was an orfan of a fur-trapper. Although I have found the Coker's are really covering uo the truth at times. ( if you get my drift )
Also In his youngest son's Isom Isaac Coker it does not list Cora as his mother. He was also born in English Ky. unlike his sibling's who were born in Indiana. In his obit. a woman named Tabitha was his mother.
