My Great Grandfather, Heinrich Horst emigrated from the area near Worms (around 1900) in the Ukraine. My Grandfather remembered going to
Odessa with his father; he also mentioned an
uncle Wilhelm Horst and family that had remained in Russia. They lost contact with
them during the 1920s I believe. Probably
due to the Communist "collectivisation" of
farms. My other three grandparents were born
in German colonies on the Volga
My great grandfather Horst helped most of his brothers and sisters leave and find homes
in this area(Colorado or Nebraska).
I have a family history or geneology that
traces the Horst family back to a Ludwig Horst who was born in Russia (my great, great
grandfather). Perhaps we are related.

My great, great grandfather was also named Heinrich Horst. He immigrated from Darnstadt, Germany around 1900. His wife's name was Laura Schmalz. Take a look at our family tree in the following link:

http://www.geocities.com/sheldonhurst/Tree/Index.htm

Don't forget that most of the Horst family changed their names in the late 1920's to Hurst in fear of the German aggression. Hurst was a safe name because it's origins are mainly English.

Have fun,

HI -- my great grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Horst - her father Henry and Catherine (nee Koch) Horst -- Mary Elizabeth was born in Rosenberg (now called Umet), Kamyshin, Russia -- that is just west of the Volga - there apparently were a lot of Horst families in Rosenberg and in the nearby villages. is your family from that area?

Dear Researcher,
My HORST'S came to the United States in 1884 from Worms, Russia. Karl Horst and Elizabeth ,Schweigert, Horst and their 5 children. One was my Grandfather, Karl, age 12. THey settled in Sutton, Nebraska and in 1898 he home steaded in Oklahoma during the Chyenne and Arapoha run. My father Samuel Henry Horst was born in 1913, and I born in 1937 in Cordell, Oklahoma. Hope this will help to dispaly my family. Thanks. Bill Horst
