According to the Opdyke/Updike Genealogy,
Mary was the daughter of George Opdycke & Sophia Baker.
Catherine was the daughter of Joshua Opdycke & Ann Green.

Joshua was the son of Albert & Elizabeth. George was Joshua's brother John's son.
David & Aaron Van Syckel were said to be brothers.

Mary's brithdate is given as 1771, died 1855, lived in Somerville, NJ. No information about other spouses. Only child mentioned for Mary is Mary Ann Van Syckle, who married Enoch M. Randolph.
Hope this helps,
Lois

Hello,
I'm a decentant of Catherine Opdyke, I think, maybe you can clear it up for me. In my ancestry papers, I have Catherine married to Aaron Van Sickelen. and they had children, one being Daniel Van Syckel who married a Mary Carhart. One of their children is Isabella Van Syckel who married Robert P. Negus. Their child, Selinda P. Negus which is my greatgrandmother. I had down that George was Catherines father, but maybe I was wrong. I do think that Mary and Cartherine were sisters. The birthplaces and where they lived in that time period is too close. could you help in clearing this up. Thanks Carie

The Opdyke-Updike Genealogy from 1889 says that Catherine Opdyke who married Aaron Van Syckel was the daughter of Joshua Opdyke & Ann Green.
This Joshua Opdyke was a brother to my Mary Opdyke's father Benjamin.

You can access the book at http://www.heritagepursuit.com/OpDyck/OpDyckIndex.htm
It has a search engine to make it easier to find the right page.

There isn't much listed for their children though. Only that they had a daughter who married Charles Wilson; and that they had a grandson Bennet Van Syckel who was a judge of the Supreme Court in NJ.

Lois, I can't believe you have the same geneology book I have. It was written by Charles Wilson Opdyke in 1889. My Grandfather was Robert Browning Updike from Nebraska. Please contact me if you are interested in following up on this.
