Upon researching Jim's family history and his connection to Devil Anse I am led to another question. it was told that Jim was Anse's uncle. However, I thought that Elizabeth, Jim's mother, was a sister to Nancy Vance, Anse's mother. If Elizabeth and Nancy were sisters that would make Jim and Anse cousins. So do I have this tree line wrong or what is the confusion?

So to answer your question Anse's Mother was Jims's sister.

A descendant of Richard Vance ("Bad" Jim's brother) has matched DNA with a descendant of John Ferrell's, indicating that Ferrell was at least the biological father of Elizabeth's son Richard. That doesn't necessarily prove he fathered all of her children of course, but it seems likely he was the father for one or more of the others if not all.
