Any ideas?

Any ideas?

My 2nd g-grandfather was Hugh Archer, born in Ireland abt 1840. The last trace I find for him is an 1896 Chicago City Directory. I can't find anything to show where he lived after that or when/where he died. Nothing to indicate he followed his children out-of-state or that he died in Chicago or anywhere else. He just disappears. I've searched all over online. Any suggestions?

have you tried going to or getting in touch with the Chicago Irish Society. I hear it's very active - has genealogy meetings and classes etc. Good Luck. I've got a brick wall too. very frustrating!

I don't know if this is the same man, but I found this in a 1900 Chicago Directory:

Archer, Hugh J supt 52 W 12th pl h 1080 W Polk

http://chicagoancestors.org/downloads/1900a.pdf

Note: 1080 might be 1980. It's difficult to read.

I'll see if I can find anything else...

Here's another listing in a 1910 Chicago Directory:

Archer Hugh J clk 200 Adams h 2450 Grenshaw

It's not proven that he's the same man, of course...I'll keep looking

I see from your tree that he lived in Cincinnati previously. Have you tried looking there after 1896?
