I am looking for information on the Sam Gann Family. I believe he was out of Tennessee. The moved to Oklahoma. I also believe he was in Gaston, Alabama, and not sure about how many wives, but he fathered 32 children there. That might have been his dad, though. His children were: George Ollie, Charley, Emma, Etta, Molly, Ethel Bell. Etta, Molly and Ethel all married into the Bush family in Oklahoma. Charley married a woman named Mattie, and later on, Christine Fisher. George/Ollie...I don't know if this is two people or Ollie is George's last name. He was killed in Muskogee, Okalhoma. Can somebody help me trace my family tree with this information?

Is that Gadsden, Etwoah County, Alabama? I am also researching my Gann family. My grandfather, John William Gann, died when my dad was 6 mos. old. I do not know John Williams father's name, he was suppose to have drowned in the Coosa River in Gadsden. But John William had two brothers, Glenn Gann and Ray Gann ( born around 1906) Ray and Glenn were said to have moved out west. Do you have any photos? John William also had a sister, name unknown, in 1934-35 she lived in Detroit , Michigan. Their mother was half Cherokee or Creek Indian. I haven't had much luck finding anything.

Hi, Linda. This is what my sister sent me. William Samuel Gann was married once before he married Louise Tollvier: Wlliam Samuel Gann married Louise Tolliver 04-12-1891 at Briartown in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory.

George Gann the oldest boy was killed at Dustin, Oklahoma.
Charley Gann's wife was named Minnie ( She spent most of her time in the insane asylum at Vinta). He had two children by her:
Charley Gann Jr. who lives in Tulsa Hazel Gann (The last I knew of her she was a long haul trucker)

Mollie Gann married Shelton Bush. Emma Penwell married Charles Lee Phillips. He was 49 and she was 16. Charles Phillips had been married before to Mollie Bush, the sister of
Shelton Bush. They had two Children 1.Virgil Phillips 2. Lucy Phillips. Emma Gann and Charles Phillips had three children that lived. 1. Eugene Phillips 2. Jefferson Phillips 3. Charles Olen Phillips Wlliam Samuel Gann then married Lucy Phillips making Emma Gann his mother-in-law. Her step-daughter Lucy was now her step mother. William Samuel Gann and Lucy Phillips had two children. 1. W1lliam Gann 2. Samuel Gann
Wlliam Gann died in 1925 and then Lucy Phillips Gann married my uncle Homer Penwell.

William Samuel Gann was born in 1869 in Conway County, Arkansas. W.S. Gann's father Was John Gann. His mother was Morning Sloan. John Gann married Morning Sloan (Masters, she had been married before) April 17th, 1859 in Conway County, Arkanas. Marriage Book 1 Page 180. John Gann died 1873 in Logan County, Arkansas. Morning Sloan Masters Gann died in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas of consumptio (TB) in 1885. John Gann was born in 1815 in Clarke County, Georgia.

When I talked to Aunt Emma, she said that John Gann lived in Gadsden, Alabama and was married four times, and had 32 children. So, if it's a Gann in Gadsden, it is probably kin folk.

I am attaching a picture of Charlie Gann, William's Son and my mom.

Thank you for all of the information and replying back. There is a possibility that he , John Gann could be my great, great, great grandfather, my grandfather, John William's, grandfather. Charlie Gann doesn't resemble my Gann family.
My dad, myself and my brother all look just like my Grandpa John William. I just recently received a photo of him, the first time I ever saw him. I was totally shocked at how much he looked like us. I will send a photo attachments of him for you to see. Thank again.

Marilynn,
I just ran across a reply from you that I had copied and read it, decided to check back on this site , because I could not remember looking at the photos, the one of Charlie Gann and your Mom and Charlie Gann. Boy, after reading the post from you and then from myself, it is very confusing. I wish we had more on John Gann that was married 4 times and had 32 children. I wish we knew when he lived in Gadsden. I still have not gotten very far in my search. I finally found out exactly when my grandfather, John William Gann died, and I found out that his father's name was John (my great grandfather ) was John Gann married to Sarah Wood Gann. So John that you speak of , could have been my great grandfather's father, I suppose. Just figuring the age a man might marry and have his first child, I figure my g.grandfather may have been born in the late 1860 or early 1870's. I guess it all depends on which wife John Gann was on when and if he was the father of my ggrandfather. He would have had to been in his mid 50's to have been my ggrandfather's father. LOL I know, I'm doing a lot of supposing, but I am just not having any luck finding my family. Oh yes, is your Aunt Emma still living? Does she know anything else about our John Gann?

It's me again, Marilynn!
Do you know about the Gann Historical Society and Library?
I am a member. I get a quarterly newsletter, "The Gann Gazette" There are a lot of people in the society who are from Oklahoma and that are probably related to you. It's really worth subscribing. They also have a registry available, but only for members.
