Searching for information on the Cannariato and Falsone families of Prizzi, Sicily. Any information appreciated, especially info on Lorenzo Cannariato, who came to the U.S. around 1902-03 with his brother and was killed in an explosion while working for a road construction company near Boston. Also would like any info on his wife, Vincenza Falsone, b. 1860, daughter of Giuseppe Falsone and Giovanna Cutrano.

My father's Name is Hugo Cossentino. His Father Bernardo Cossentino married Maria Cannarito many, many years ago.
We now live in Milwaukee, WI.
There is more info if you would like. I'm not sure if there is any relation to what your are looking for.

Hi Frank,

Was Maria Cannariato from Prizzi? What other information do you have? I would be interested in any info you have about the Cannariatos of Prizzi. Thanks!

Hi Janet,

I have more info, but again, I'm not sure if it's a link or not. She was born in 1906 in Alessandro della Rocca which is about 10-20 miles from Prizzi. She went under the name Maria Giuseppina Cannariato. I'm trying to get more info, but it looks more and more that this is no relation. Which is odd because of the last name. May I ask what city you are in now?

Thanks

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the info. My grandfather Vincenzo Cannariato was born in Prizzi in 1891, but it's quite likely that Maria could have been a cousin -- sometimes if one is able to go back far enough, a link emerges. Do you have any other info about Maria? Vincenzo was the son of Lorenzo Cannariato, who had at least two or three brothers whose names I don't know. I'm guessing that Lorenzo was born sometime between 1850-1865, and his father would have been Vincenzo Cannariato, if they followed the Italian naming tradition. I live near Rockville, MD. Where are you?
Janet

Janet,

I am in Milwaukee, WI. I'll try and find out more from my father. We started chatting about this becuase his father and grandfather both worked in coal mines in Pennsylvania. I found that facsinating that they were in the states for a period of time in the early 1900's. Maria would have be my grandmother. There is a connection to St. Louis as some of them moved there. So, you maybe correct as far as the cousin scenario. I'll find out more.

Hi every Cannariatos!

For the moment I have no good news, my father don't know your grandfather, but I don't give up, I'll ask my aunt.

Unfortunatly: my grandfather and my grandmother are dead, so I can't ask them, the best one in my family for ask about somebody went in America in 1900's.

In Sicily used to give nickname everybody, so will be easier if u remember the nickname of your grands, my father ask me first the nickname, everybody refer people using nicks.

Hello!
Unfortunately, I don't know any nicknames for my grandparents. I know that my grandfather Vincenzo's parents were Lorenzo Cannariato and Vincenza Falsone. My grandfather had 2 siblings: Francesca and Giorgio. Lorenzo came to the U.S. first, but was killed in an explosion while working on a road construction team. I believe he had 3 or 4 brothers.
My grandfather Vincenzo's mother, Vincenza Falsone, was the daughter of Giorgio Falsone and Giovanna Cutrano.
I visited Lorenzo and Vincenza's house in Prizzi years ago -- it was right next to an old church that I believe was no longer used.
I hope this helps!
Best wishes, Janet
