Can you tell me what Mitcham you are looking for the burial place of I might be able to help you!

I have done lots of research on Mitchum Families(all spellings) in NC, SC, AL, GA and TX just to name a few states.

There is a big bunch from Lawrence Co, Chambers co, clarke Co, Randolph and some others.

My ggggrandfather was born in NC bet 1783-1794 and died in Tx after 1870.

Thanks for the reply! Actually, I am looking for the location of my Great-grandmother's gravesite. She is said to have been buried in a family graveyard. The family was "The Mitcham's." Her name was Annie Levora (Campbell) Coleman. The family was homesteading property from a man named Mr. Shores in/around the town of Goodwater, AL. She died around late 1914, or early 1915. The family was originally from Roswell (Milton Co.) GA. Annie's husband, Valentine Coleman was part owner in a sawmill in/near Goodwater.

Her grave is probably the only evidence that this family was ever in this area. I sure would like to know exactly where this graveyard is located.

Have you ever run into any Coleman's buried amongst your Mitcham ancestors? Any idea where this family/ community cemetery is located?

There are others but they died after 1920 or before 1910

There is a lady who can get uncertified copies of Alabama Death cert for a fee of $3.00 if you order these she will need the information above from the Alabama Death indexes.

Her name is Susette Cook and her web address is

Remember they are not certified copies if you need certified copies you need to write to the alabama Dept of Health

There where 2 Annie Coleman's who died in GA and they died in the 1970's

I cant find Valentine or Annie in the 1910 census

I also found no Shores Family listed in Coosa co AL in 1910 or 1920 census indexes.

If you find this Mitcham Graveyard will you please let me know! I am a avid Mitchum researcher with records all over the US. (i do all spellings to include Meachum and Meacham)

You might try posting a message on Coosa co AL message board as well. Maybe someone in that area might know where it is!

Deb,

Thank you so much for your post! I am now considering other possibilities re: the exact location of this family during their brief time in AL.

The record you list for Annie L. Coleman, (d. 21 Dec 1915) is the only potential fit. My grandmother, (now 93) was born 28 Nov. 1914. Annie died shortly thereafter.

I have always thought Annie was buried somewhere near either Goodwater, or perhaps Ashland.

I will DEFINATELY let you know when I locate Annie's grave. Although I am unaware of her exact whereabouts, I can assure you she is resting among a number of Mitcham's (or another sp. variant).

Thanks so much once again. I will take a closer look at Mobile Co. & other AL locales!
