Hello,
I hope someone out there can help me. I am just starting to
work on my family tree, and have found it MUCH harder than I
thought it would be. I have information on my Grand, and Great-Grand father's. Beyond that I only have names of the next generation. If any of you have any information on a Landry Rougeau who is the father of Arthur Rougeau that was born in Eunice, LA. Please email me. I would be so appreciative of any help or pointers you could give me.
Thanks,
Janet (Rougeau) Abrego

I am also looking for some information on Rougeau's from Louisiana. I have back as far as a few generations but have hit a brick wall!!! It's alot harder than I thought. The family I'm looking for is the family of Edward and Earl Rougeau from the Basile - Elton area. I got as much info from Earl Rougeau(still living) as I could. His parents were Edward & Helena(Lebleau)Rougeau. Edward died in August 1983 at the age of 75, and Helena died November 1989. They are buried in the Saint Augustine Catholic Church Cemetary in Basile. They had 5 children...Earl, Harry, Jessie, Mary Ann & Jeanette.

And Edwards parents were Luma & Cora(Aguillard)Rougeau. Luma died around April 1958 at the age of 74, and Im not sure about Cora. They are also buried at Saint Augusine. They had 4 sons....Elias, Edward, Eddie(died from pnemonia) and James(died in WWII).
Thats as far back as I have gotten, I don't know if any of it will help you or not but I wish you lots of luck on this mission. Earl told me that he was told growing up that the family came from Nova Scotia, Canada. 3 brothers (one who was called Red Rougeau whom settled in Raceland/Thibidoueax area) came from Canada and one settled in Lecompt, and the other in Baton Rouge. If you would like to know anything else that I may have I would be more than happy to give it to you.

In the summer of 2003, I was visiting my parents in Eunice, LA. They were insistant on bringing me to surrounding cemeteries to show me graves/markers and tell me about our ancestors and roots. Little did I know that as I carried a lil tattered black notebook that I used to jot down dates, information, that I would cherish and yearn for more as I lost both of my parents and all unanswered questions wthin the following 6yrs.

My grandfather was Eugea Rougeau- 1/19/1885-12/25/1966 Settled in Eunice, La. St Paul Cemetery Eunice, LA
Married Lelia Savoy 9/6/1911-5/5/1995
They had 3 children:
1. Dale A. Rougeau 6/15/1936-11/21/2009(My Father) St Edwards Cemetery Richard, LA
Married/Divorced Joyce Higginbotham 8/21/1939-9/17/2003(My Mother) St Edwards Cemetery Richard, LA
2. Eugenia "Ching" Veillon died in 2008 St Paul Cemetery Mauoseleum Eunice, LA
3. Gretna Ann Rougeau 7/27/1942-8/1/1942 St Edwards Cemetery

Some of the brothers names I have is
Ariel 10/21/1892-8/2/1963 St Paul Cemetery
Edwin 11/9/1877-9/28/1934 St Paul Cemetery
Roual 11/11/1875-10/5/1927 St Paul Cemetery

Other names of brothers or family I was told by family are buried in Basile, La at the Catholic Cemetery.
Not sure on these
Edward Oct 1909-Aug 1945?
Luna (maybe it was Luma?) Sept 1882-April 7 ?

I would love to know my grandfather's parent's names or any ancestry information you have and could share would be appreciated.
There were unmarked graves with wrought iron crosses in what the family called L'Ance de Rougeau (French for Rougeau Cove) located near Savoy off of US 90W Parish Rd 758, 2nd curve to the right. Follow gravel road around the fields - cemetery is in the trees to the right down the grassy road along the field and line of trees on the left are the graves.

Wasn't sure if my reply made it directly to you l rougeau79. Also I wanted to state the unmarked graves with the wrought iron crosses at Rougeau Cove were to be Eugea Rougeau's and his sibling's parents. Hope this info helps you and the Edward and Luma you are looking for may be connected. Thank you for any information you can share or confirm.
