I am planning a trip to Scotland in October and am trying to get my Shedden information in place.

My ancestor is William Shedden born late 1700's or early 1800's, married Elizabeth, they had a son John who was born 1824. He married Margaret McCall, they came with their children to the US in 1860's and settled in Rhode Island.
Can anyone help me with this line?

Hi William was born 30 july 1795 In Kilwinning Ayr Scotland. If this is yours. I decend from Williams older sister mary, she married James Andrew and came to Australia.
9 children were born to Martha Wylie and John Shedden.
Im from No 1 William was No 3.

Hi Margaret! My William Shedden was born approx 1797 in Ayrshire Scotland. He was married to Elizabeth Simpson/Simson. They were married July 22, 1823 in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland. I never did get to Scotland because of 9/11, I know of 2 children. Alexander Hall and John Shedden, Sr. I suspect that William comes from the family with 9 children, but I haven't been able to prove it. Do you have any further info on William. I have something somewhere that talks about that large family and lists all the kids. I'll have to dig it up and see what I can find about your Mary,

You know it's funny that i've seen william shedden from Ayrshire Scotland. My grandfather's family was from that particular area in scotland. I will have to ask my grandmother some more information. My grandfather died in 1997 so I'm not sure how much my grandmother know.s But I hope that I can catch up with you two soon.

The Shedden family I have been researching starts off with Alexander Hall Shedden marrying Margaret Graham in Calicut, India in1847.
I have already found an LDS record giving William Shedden and Elizabeth Simpson as Alexander's parents but searches on the scotlandspeople.gov.uk site don't seem to support this.
If anyone has managed to find any other confirmation that Alexander was born in Kilmarnock then I would love to know of it.

Are you still researching the Shedden line? i have now hired the beith and kilwinning parish records from the lds, and lots of sheddens, and Wylies. Our 9 children could have grown to 12, there are two martha wylies that married Shedden boys, 1 james, mine John. and all the childrens names are the same, so very mixed up. with the addition of 3 more to one of them. im trying to have a go at cleaning the mess up by these films, but suspect maybe others have tried this also.
anyway endevouring to have a go, unfortuantly the marriage details are not mentioning the parents, and the death records dont mention a first name, just "a child of james Shedden and the burial date" so its going to be hit and miss.
yet to get to the births section!

I'm sorry I can't help you. All I know is that we're distantly related. I only have information traced back to July 22, 1823 in Kilmarnock, Scotland, UK (about 25 miles southwest of Glasgow) when William SHedden and Elizabeth Simpson got married. My Great-Great-Great Grandparents on my mother's side were William Shedden and Elizabeth Simpson. Their first child, Alexander Hall Shedden (c. 1823-1878), and Margret Graham (1828-1878) were my Great-Great Grandparents. Their sixth child, Charles Edward Shedden (1857-1931) and Rachel Wijenayeke (1867-1931) are my Great Grandparents. Thier second child, James Robertson Shedden (1887-1963) and Mabel Alice Goonewarndena (1895-1973) were my Grandparents. Their eigth child, Joyce Ethel Shedden (1927-2006) and Susanta Heendeniya (1927- ) are my parents.

I'm also intersted if there is any more information going back further. If anyone can find any infomation, I'd greatly appreciate it.
