Rosenhiem, Russia? Is this the same Rosenhiem in Germany?

Rosenhiem, Russia? Is this the same Rosenhiem in Germany?

Surnames: Grossman, Goebel from Rosenhiem, Russia and Neubauer from Krasnojar, Hoffental, Volga, Russia
I'm trying to place where Rosenhiem, Russia would be. My GG-Grandfather Fred (Fredrick) Grossman and brother in law Alexander Goebel came from Rosenhiem. I can place them first in the US in 1920 in Wisconsin but when I search for 1920 Russian Maps to find Rosenhiem, I find it's really in Germany.

Does anyone have anything or can point me to a website to help confirm this? My search dead ends here in the states in 1920 so I need to find my next local but I'm not sure where I should contact, Russia or Germany.

Any help is appreciated!

Katie

The two are not the same. Just as numerous place names are duplicated in North America, they are also duplicated throughout Europe.

Go to http://www.odessa3.org/collections/refs/link/villhelp.txt where you will find at least 3 Rosenheim in Russia, one of which is in the Volga River region of German settlements.

For additional help with researching Germans from the Volga River region, check the resources at http://www.ahsgr.org . Finding a passenger list with their entry to the States (or via Canada) will probably help your search.

the russian Rosenheim you find on this old map with the german settlements above the blue big word "Volga Wiesenseite" at the river: http://www.rollintl.com/roll/volga.htm
here the map of present time. look 1st on the nearby town Saratov. the next town in direction to Rosenheim was on the old map Krasnojar, now and so on new map Podstepnoye is the former Rosenheim:

I am trying to find info on a Anna Elizabeta Gobel, born in Rosenheim March 11, 1873. I have her father as Fred Gobel. I do not have a name for her mother which I would like to know. Anna E. married Jacob Aul and immigrated to the U.s. in 1912 to the Bellwood, Illinois area. If this person is in your tree, I can share info with you regarding when they were in the U.S. I'm trying to locate info on this Gobel family in Russia.

I'm sure you already found your answer, but I took notice of your posting because my grandfather was Henry Goebel from Rosenheim, Russia. Rosenheim was near Sarotov on the Volga River. It now has a different name. My grandparents (my grandmother was Christina Scheidt) came to Sheboygan, Wisconsin around 1914. I have a memory that they had relatives named Grossman.

Hello Cousin Cindy!

So nice to meet you! You can contact me directly at my email: katiejedipm1@yahoo.com.

Henry Goebel's father married a Grossman and Henry's sister Dorthea/Dorothy married a Grossman (probably a cousin, haven't ironed that out yet)

Dorothy would be my 2nd great grandmother.

I look forward to sharing info with you!
