My ancestor, James Barry or Barrie, said to have been a native of Perthshire, Scotland, was the first settler on Six Mile Brook in Pictou County in 1802. He married Mary Richards, daughter of Joseph and Catherine (McLellan) Richards. Together they had twelve children: Mary Barry, m. ? McDonald of Lime Rock; Nancy Barry, m. Dr. Fox; Jane Barry married William James Milne; Mary Ann Barry, m. John McIntosh and settled near Tatamagouche, Colchester Co.; Catherine Barry and Nellie Barry remained single; James Miller Barry m. Isabella McLellan or Rogers Hill; Anthony Barry m. Sarah Ross of Windsor, NS and had a large family there; John Barry m. Matilda Cameron of Mt. Thom and had three children.

If you descend from this Barry family, it would likely be via Anthony and Sarah (Ross) Barry.

I do know of a James Barry or Berry who married a Mary Haggerty in the 1790's, and also of a ? Barry who married a Mary Crowe. I haven't been able to find a link between these families, but they are the only Barry families I have ever happened across in connection to Colchester Co. ca 1790 - 1850.

Anthony...Thank you for responding. The names you mentioned are not familiar.

I'm looking for family of Suther Barry who was the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Barry of Ireland. Suther was born in Londonderry, Nova Scotia and married Bertha Taylor of Parrsboro area. Any connection out there? Ruth

I am not sure. My great3grandmother was named Mary Ann (Barry) McIntosh. Mary Ann Barry's grandfather was Joseph Richards.

I know there was another Barry family in the Botsford, NB area (Westmorland Co., NB) at the time. I think there were also Barrys on PEI.

Mary Ann's maiden name was McAloni (sp?) and was m. to Joseph Barry. They were my g-grandparents so late 1800-early 1900's There is a postcard from a Barry in PEI, but I thought it was a vacation, but will look into Barry's there. I
do know that Londonderry, Parrsboro, Shediack areas play a part in my Barry line.

Unfortunately, I do not. I know that William Milne came from the Roger's Hill/Scotsburn region of Pictou County, so there may be records in the Stone Book Pictou County Census that list children for William and Jane.
