Surnames: GARAIG, LASSAUSSE, LASSEZZE, LASSOZZE
I am trying to find records of my husbands great grandparents Fransois (Frank) GARAIG & Marie (Mary) LASSEZZE. We have had spellings of her name from La Seur to Lassozze. We believe that he was from Sarrance, she may have been also. We have very romantic family stories about them! Anyone with any ideas, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

Could Francois's wife have been a Lasalle or Lassalle?
My great-grandfather Etienne Blaye, first cousin to Francois Garaig, and his wife Marianne LaSalle were both from Lourdios Ichere, which is only a few miles from Sarrance. Etienne's mother was Grace Labarrera was from Sarrance, so there was a lot of communication between the villages.

I think you need to give more information, especially dates. When were they born? Did they marry in France? When did they leave?

At the time that I posted the begining of this thread I did post all the information I had, it's a long story. Over the years I have added a lot of info. Francois GARIAG (b 9 Jan 1858, La Maison Penacq, Sarrance, Basses Pyrenees, France) married Marie LASSERRE on 11 Feb 1884, in Perquie, Landes, Aquitaine, FRANCE. I have a copy of the marriage certificate and French military documents to support his birthdate and place, as well as his obituary. I do not have Marie's birthdate but according to the marriage certificate she was the daughter of Jean LASSERRE & Jeanne DUMESTE. Perhaps they were from Perquie, where the couple was married. They appear on a passenger ship list arriving inNew Orleans, Louisiana on 2 Apr 1890. If you have a connection to this family, I would love to share info.

No, I have no connection with this family - I just enjoy helping people withFrench genealogy. I had a look in the indexes for Perquie - Jean LASERRE and Jeanne DUMESTRE were married on 9 Feb 1858. a Marie LASERRE was born 24 Sept 1861. The records themselves are not on line.

Angela, Thank you so much! It's been a lot of work finding my husband's family as Marie died soon after the birth of my husband's grandfather and their arrival in the US. Their son Andrew was placed with a family who adopted him and we knew him by his American name Marvin CONGER.

Our names in Aquitaine include not only Jean LASERRE & Jeanne DUMESTRE (once again I have no birth info for either), but his parents we believe to be Joseph LASSERRE & Marie REMAZEILLES (no info) and her parents, believed to be Jean DUMESTE & Jeanne SOURDOIS (no info).

On the paternal line we have the parents of Francois Garaig as Jean GARAIG-LABACHOTTE b.5 Jan 1831, Sarrance & Marguerite LABARERE-DEBAIX b.1836 d. 11 Nov 1859 in Sarrance, they were married 13 Dec 1854. I have names going farther back on theses lines that include NERET and HOURNOU. If you have any info about these families I would be delighted to have your assistance.

Once again, thank you so much for your help with the birthdate.
Regards, Janis
