My name is Janice Hocking Hickman. My mother was a Hibner. She was the daughter of David and Bertha Evensen Hibner. I can go back as far as Philip Jones of Westchester County, New York. If any one can help find information on Philip Jones whose daughter , Sarah Jones married John Michael Hibner of Germany. They had one son that we know of, John Hibner who was born around 1782.After her Hibner husband passed away Sarah Jones married Abraham Williams, They had children born of this marriage. I am interested in the Jones, Hibner, and Williams families.

Hello Janice,

I have a Hibner relative (Michael Hibner) who dates back to the late 1770's in Peekskill - he then moved to the Rochester, NY area (where his relatives still flourish until this day - including me - although I now live in Connecticut). Please contact me with more information you may have on your Hibner relatives in the Westchester County area.

Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan. I did not mean ti ignore your message. I had a problem getting your message up. I finally found out how to do it today.
My ancestor, Michael or John Hibner came to America , From Germany with a brother, .sometime in the 1700,s, we believe. His brother whose first name we do not know, lost track of each other when they went to look for work. . Our Hibner married Sarah Jones, Daughter of Philip Jones of Westchester County, New York, A relative of mine says our Hibner relative ,s first name was Michael. I know there was a Michael Hibner living around Peekskill, New York I have found him in the 1790 New York Census and another book, listing the men in Col. Pieere Van Cortlandt Regiment of the Militia of New York.

Philip Jones I found listed in the book , the Loyalist of the Southern District of New York. This Philip Jones had his land taken away because someone said that he had helped the British during the Revolutionary War. Even tho he had not, he never received his land back, according to my Great Grandfather John Hibner. There is a book at the Joliet, Illinois Public Library that has a short bio of our Hibner Family. If you would like to see the bio, I can send it to you.

Right now I live in California but a lot of our Hibners still live in Will Counnty, Illinois where my gg and ggrandfathers finally settled and raised their families.

Are you of the Hibner family of Cattaragus County, New York.? I have been researching that Hibner family also. When Peekskill was mentioned in your ouery, it rang a bell with me as my gggrandfather John Hibner was born in Peekskill, New York. His mother was Sarah Jones, daughter of Philip Jones

Also we had two gg(I think the greats are right) uncles, James and Benjamin Jones who enlisted in the militia during the Revolutionary War. They never returned home after the war so they were presumed to have been killed in battle.

Our Michael? Hibner died in early manhood and his wife Sarah Jones Hibner married again to Abraham Williams, a relative of David Williams, one of the three captors of Major Andre, the British spy. At this time we do not know if there were more children of our Hibner and Sarah Jones. We do know that Abraham and Sarah Jones Hibner Williams had children born of their union.

It was so nice to hear from you. Thank you.
