Hello

I am looking for Claudia Powell, b. 1939 Manhattan, NY: parents Fred and Eunice Powell, who immigrated to the USA from South Wales in the early 20s; Claudia has/had a brother, Gordon Frederick Powell b. 1928.
Claudia would be my father's first cousin (Jack Lewis, b. Brynmawr 1921); his mother/my grandmother, Gwen, was Fred Powell's sister. Another sister, Gwladys, also immigrated to the US, married Stan Shepherd, 2 children Edwward and Irene (Rene).
If Claudia reads this or anyone who knows her reads this, I'd really like to make contact. I don't know her married name, or if indeed she did marry.

Thanks very much

Sarah

I had a search for Claudia but couldn't find her, except on the 1940 census at Manhattan, which I see you already have. From what I see on your public tree, you don't seem to have the 1930 census. I think that is because the Powell family are listed under PAUL (would you believe!)

Church Street, Nanticoke, Luzerne, Pennsylvania
Fred Paul 35 b Wales Arrived USA 1924 Miner b 1895
Eunice Paul 25 b Wales To USA 1926 b 1905
Gordon Paul 2yrs 4 mths b Pennsylvania
Stanley Shepherd 32 Brother in Law b Wales Labourer Mines
Joe Troe (Boarder)
----------
Eunice and Gordon arrived Southampton fron New York on the MAURETANIA

Eunice Powell 26
Gordon Powell Infant

They were going to: 186 Marine St, Cwn, Monmouthshire.
I think it was a short visit. I think I noticed them going back, but I thought you might like to see that address.
------------
There is a death record for a Eunice Powell but I am not certain it is her.
Eunice Powell
SSN 135-28-7273
Last res: 08401 Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Born 8 May 1901
Died Jan 1975

Hi Brian

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply - that is very good of you.
I did manage to get hold of the 1930 census although it took time given Powell became Paul - I guess they sounded the same to American ears.
I'd really like to find out what became of Claudia and Gordon - my father's first cousins whose parents emigrated to the USA from South Wales in the 20's. I haven't had any luck so any information would be very welcome. If anyone is reading this and knows of Gordon Powell and Claudia Powell (although she may have married) please let me know - there is still family in Wales!

With best wishes

Sarah
