I want to know where this name came from. It's the German version (not Irish or English or French corruption). I know it's from the area known as Prussia, but I want to know the specific origins. Can anyone help??

About the closest reference I can find mentioning a GERMAN origin for the name. You have to understand that Prussia encompassed a large area of Northern Germany prior to WW1.

I wonder if Lyman might be Lehman or Lehmann?

My Lyman's came from Hesse Cassel and there name was Leimann.

The surname Lyman is English and goes back through Richard Lyman who came to Massachusetts with his family in 1629 and is descended directly from "Alfred the Great"
