I want to know where this name came from. It's the German version (not Irish or English or French corruption). I know it's from the area known as Prussia, but I want to know the specific origins. Can anyone help??

Don't know if this helps you at all, Tom.
Sourced from the Learn/Family Facts/Name meanings on ancestry.com.
Lyman. "Americanized form of German Leimann, Americanized form of Leinemann, habitational name for someone from Leine in Pomerania, or for someone who lived by either of two rivers called Leine, near Hannover and in Saxony."
About the closest reference I can find mentioning a GERMAN origin for the name. You have to understand that Prussia encompassed a large area of Northern Germany prior to WW1.

Good to know! It was the "Y" that was the 'problem'. Not unusual to have such a letter in German, but it has a different pronunciation. Glad to help.

Leymand, Leymann, Leimann, Lyman from Hessen or Hessen-Kassel and Roddenau, Prussia, annexed by Germany in the 1860's.
