Solomon Smith my G G G Grandfather was born 1745 died 1803. He received a land grant of 200 acres on December 27 1778. Only location given, "Zacks Fork of lower Creek." Prior to his death he purchased more property. There is a Smith family graveyard located somewhere on this property. Only information I have is it's located on the crest of a ridge overlooking Zacks Fork of Lower Creek. On Dec 12 1796 he ran a classified add and gives his address as: "Third Creek of the Catawba, Burke Co." This also may be a clue? In Lenoir there is an intersection known to some as Smiths Crossroads.
He wife's name was Ally and he had 3 sons, Anthony, Augustine and Solomon II who is my G G Grandfather. My Great Granfather was Julius Smith (1840-1923) Burried in Morganton. I want to find the Smith Family Graveyard, and information on my G G G Grandfather. Solomon Smith. Thanks David

My gggrandfather is a Solomon Smith also. He was married to my gggrandmother Rebecca Jane Potter. She was from N. C. b.1845 d.1927. She's buried in Denton's Valley Cemetary. Virginia. I don't have anything on Solomon Smith, only that my gggrandmother married him when she was 13. They lived in a cabin in North Carolina. If you can send me any information on my gggrandfather, it would be appreciated.

Hello Susan,
Haven't done very much with Geneolgy in several years. So your posting and wanted to reply. I have my family well documented back to my ggg grandfather Solomon Smith born April 1801 One of Solomons sons was Julius Smith my gg granfather and one of Julius sons was my g granfather born 1866 Charles Tate Smith Sr. He died before I was born 1948.
My dad Charles Tate Smith Jr. was born 1926. Solomon was easy to trace for with all the Smiths in old Burke county he was the only Solomon for many years and all the children and dates lined up correctly. Most reseachers in the early 2000's had Solomon's father as Henry or Solomon Augustus. I happen to think it was most likely Henry son to Solomon Augustus simply based on the death year and age of Solomon Augustus. Now you mention Samuel as a possibility of being his father. I would love to hear from you about that idea. Thanks for your help and look forward to hearing from you.

Hi - guess its been some time since I looked at this blog - I have traced my ancestry from my grandfather Lloyd Poole Smith, to Marcus Columbus Smith, Marcus L Smith, Morgan Elijah Smith, Henry Austin Smith and then Solomon Augustus Smith (1745-1802). I have a DNA link with Henry and Solomon. All of these ggggrandfathers are Burke and Caldwell Counties, Nc. I thought that Samuel and Grizzel Smith were Solomon Augustus's parents but now DNA from another source makes that look less likely so have hit a wall there. I have also found a DNA link with another bunch of smiths who all use Augustus in their names but haven't been able to make any kind of connection yet - just started that route. Ay suggestions or ideas?

Ginny, I'm trying to connect the kentucky line of the Smiths. I have records and some photos from 1800s, I'm seeing many family names repeated -- Solomon, Samuel, Agustus, Cynthia but just can't nail down the connection. Mira
