I am looking for any one with information/ connections to John Borland of the firm Rankin and Borland, druggist and chemists Kilmarnock.
John Borland was the brother of my gggrandfather, Robert Borland (b ~ 1823).

My gggrandfather, Robert Borland in High Glencairn Street and Janet Thomson in Langlands Street were married in Kilmarnock on the 15th of November 1844.
They immigrated to New Zealand on the ship ‘Mersey’ in 1862

Janet’s parents were James Thomson and Margaret Kerr, m 11 Jan 1828 in Kilmarnock.

Dear Richard,
I read your email message with astonishment! I am a great grandson of the John Borland who was a partner in Rankin & Borland, in Kilmarnock! Indeed, his son, also called John Borland continued the business, as did my father, also a John Borland.

As you email is dated 2003 I am unsure if you will receive this reply, therefore, I will draw to a close. But please, please email me so that we can be in communication. I and my sister are the Borland family historians, and can give you a great deal of information, happily. However, I must tell you that we never knew that the first John Borland (or any Borland) had a brother called Robert. As far as we know, the first John Borland was an only child. Are you sure your Robert was his brother?

This is very exciting, and I look forward to hearing from you with much anticipation!

Sincerely,
James Lees Borland

I have just found this message board after doing some research on the above chemist. I bought a blue glass soda syphon about 10 years ago with the names Rankin & Borland on it,so it was nice to read something of it's past.
