Hi Edmund,
I note you posted this message Christmas day 1999 you may not be checking it any more however here goes - I have been searching the web myself to see what/who family is out there.
My name is Steve Leifi and my father is from Lalomanu in Samoa. I also lived there 4 years from age 11. I was born in New Zealand and currently reside in Auckland, NZ. I think we may be able to help each other out.
My father, Tapeli Leifi moved to New Zealand in the mid 60's where he met my mother who is NZ Maori. His father, Neru Leifi was the "Matai" of the Leifi family and was married to Vaosa.
"Fuataga" is the family name of his cousins, I do remember when I lived in Lalomanu the Fuataga family lived next door. I believe my uncle Simo has picked up the "fuataga" family title in the village but I could be wrong. (I'll check with my pop).
I don't know much about "Fuataga" or "Leifi" titles other then they are important titles in the Aleipata area. I also believe that both our families founded Lalomanu. With old traditional Lalomanu village songs either featuring your family name or mine.
It's been a couple of years now and you may have been able to trace your family back. who knows...
Please feel free to contact me on this address, I also have 2 brothers and 2 sisters who reside in Australia. Look forward to hearing from you and hopefully being able to answer a few of your queries.

Tofa soifua,
Steve Leifi
Auckland, NZ

Hi Steve,
My name is Kendall Navares and I'm the cousin of Edmund Hiram, I call him Uncle though as he is older then I. I'm sitting here with my Grandma, Pola Fanene Wong, the first cousin of Edmund Hiram, and we were wondering if you were able to find out if your Uncle Simo did indeed take the Fuataga title in Lalomanu.

A cousin by the name of Warren Willis who use to live in American Samoa, told me that while living in Samoa, an old man about 102 years old confronted him and the sister and lived told them to follow him to Western Samoa, village unknown, I'll find out. Upon arrival, he said that this land belongs to the Fuataga Family and gave them the Matai title(status). I have yet to get the details from my cousin, Warren, but that is what he told me.

Please get back to me when you can. My email is knn2@email.byu.edu.

Much alofa,
Kendall

Hey people!

Didnt mean to 'blend' on your topic (but I will...you know you cant keep an L/Aian down!!) However, I was under the impression that Kasimane, son of Tafa now held the Fuataga title...under duress I believe - but just repeating what I heard, OK?

I am the daughter of Faioso Aitogi, who is the daughter of the late Seuala Tipa & Gagau, of the SEUALA family (Whoop, whoop!)in Lalomanu, Aleipata! Please people, you cant talk about Lalomanu without mentioning the Seuala family, come on now!

In all seriousness, Im in the process of completing my Family Tree.....so any Seuala's out there, front up & state your rank....Im joking....just holler, OK?

My email addy is Amayiz@hotmail.com

Hi,
Greetings to you all, Aitogi is most probably correct, to be honest I do not know who holds the "Fuataga" title. My uncle Simo does not.
Kendall, I hope you and your family are well and that you are able to find the answers to your quest.
Keep safe,
Steve Leifi

Hey Francisco,
Sabes? Nunca he conocido alguien, menos los de mi familia con el apellido mio...digo, nuestro...Navares. I am very, VERY, interested in talking with you. Just so you know....mi familia es de Las Filipinas...asi que...seguro que Navares es latino...lo que pasa es que no se como nos vamos a conectar. It will be a long shot...but I'm excited to start. I was always under the impression that "Navares" actually ended in a "z," but I don't know. Anywayz...since this has nothing to do with my Samoan side of the family, why don't you email me and we'll see what we can find out from each other. Thanks for the email!
Hasta Luego,
Kendall

Please tell me anything you can about this person. Oh, Tasi LEIFI married a (Vasai) Paese GAEA. I have an Ata o le faasologa o auga tua'a...and the name LEIFI popped up. I'd really appreciate it. I too hope that your family is doing well.
Thanks again,
