I am searching for a christening for Jane SOMERSET c. 1805 in or around Manningford Bruce Wiltshire.

Her marriage record in 1825 in Manningford Bruce to John COLES states she was 'of the parish' - but I cannot trace a christening for her there. I'm not even sure the Somerset family were in Manningford around that time.

If anyone can help or has any ideas which family she may belong to please let me know. I know there were large Somerset families in the area at the time - but I am having trouble linking Jane up to any of them.

First, this board/list are aimed at the County of Somerset, not the surname SOMERSET, so you may wish to send your query to the Wiltshire list for a better chance of contact.

Second, you say she was "of this parish" at the time of her marriage. That only means she was living there at that time, and possibly only for a short period of time, it does not in any way mean she was born or baptised there.

I am slightly surprised to find you state this board is only for the County of Somerset, as the link at the top clearly shows thus;

So taking that into account you'll appreciate why I posted here.

Yes I also realise that 'of the parish' can sometimes only mean that the person living there at the time of marriage, but I have not traced any christening there or in the surrounding area that might be her at this moment in time.

Thus I was posting here in case anyone had happened to have looked into the Somerset lines in this area.

If this is now only a county board rather than a surname board, you might want to ask ancestry to change the linking for it, as it is certainly not listed under the county section.

You're right, it does say Surnames in the description. I hadn't noticed, as I usually read via the mailing list that this board gets gated to, and that is for the county of Somerset.

No wonder I was confused by your query.
