Surnames: Stredni,Stredney,Janocko
My great great grandfather came to the us by way of bremen. His name was John M Stredni wife Mary Janocko-he came here with his 2 brothers in 1903. I understand the town has changed names several times from Varnno Mezo,Zemplen County,Hungary to Vranovske Dlhe to the present Vranov Nad Toplou,Slovakia.

Looking for information on Stredni or Janocko and possibly any clues or hints as to where to brgin looking. Maybe any contacts that could help, etc.

The village of Vranovske Dlhe became part of the town of Vranov nad Topl'ou in 1944. Dlhe means long; several villages are so named, so the Vranovske distinguished the one near Vranov; the "nad Topl'ou" part means on the Topl'a River.

"kstred"

On your public family tree:

1. Birth - May 1888 - Hungary - Source - 1900 census
2. Arrival - 1889 - Age 1 - Source - 1900 census
3. Residence - 1900 Ramey,Pa - Age 12 - Source - 1900 census
4. Immigration - 1902 - Age 14

Are you sure that "Jnacko, Mary" (as it's actually written) is your Janocko, Mary?

Do you have information that shows she left the U.S. sometime after 1889, then returned in 1902?

If this is correct, she would have been about 7 years older than "Janos Szredni, Birth 19 May 1895 in Slovakia; Death 28 May 1932" (also from your pubic family tree).

There seem to be contradictions on your tree.
How will you know who you are looking for in the church records?
