Joseph Brock was hanged in Kinston and was one of 22 men hanged in Feb. 1864. The hangings were very controversial at the time and are still so today. He is buried in Duplin County.

Surnames: Brock
On the morning of the executions, two of the condemned - brothers John and Joel Brock were escorted down to the Neuse by George W. Camp, a shopkeeper who was also an ordained Baptist preacher, and were baptized.
Says they were about 6 feet tall and almost identically built.
This comes from the book, Justice or Atrocity by Gerard A. Patterson
The next page gives their names as John J. Brock and Joel Brock
Did you find these young men in the 1860 Census?

I have the book, and I can probably find your Brocks in the census when I have the time.
I live in Jacksonville, N.C. I could loan you the book if you'd promise to send it back. It really is interesting. We had a few names also.
