Can anyone help?

I live in England and I am trying to discover where there was a school called Parker, this school would have existed in the 1880’s and possibly the 1900’s, it could have been situated in Beloit or close to the city. An ancestor of mine attending this school before he attended high school, his name was Thomas or Tom Benjamin Swale and he attended Parker school in the 1880’s, he was born in 1872, and his mother was Harriet Swale nee’ Moore, and she owned part of Chester’s store in Beloit.

Thank you

Geoff Boon in Yorkshire, England

Parker School is one of the elementary public schools in Beloit. These schools are named after individuals who have achieved something in life. To the best of my knowledge, Parker still exists - it did the last time I was in Beloit. Being that it is a public school, a simple letter addressed to Parker Elementary School, Beloit, WI should provide attendance information. Jim Wuthrich, Vero Beach, FL.

Parker School built in 1855, address 840 5th St. I do not see a listing in the phone book now so it may not be in operation.

Thank you Paul,

Knowing about the school helps to create a better understanding about the family history.

Both my mother and I attended Parker Elementary in Beloit. It was a stately old building next to the 5th Street train tracks with two stories, beautiful wood floors, old-fashioned coat halls and a working bell tower. The rope to pull the bell was in the 6th grade cloak hall. We attended half-day kindergarten in a smaller frame building next door with a separate playground from the "Big School." Gym was held in the low-ceiling basement of the big school and I think I remember how we left our boots on the first-floor heating grate in the center hall during snowy weather. Parker was closed around 1967. It was also known as "Old No. 2". I've been looking everywhere for pictures of the building, but haven't found any yet.

I have a copy of "The Book of Beloit 1836-1936". In it I found a picture of Parker School. I am going to try to attach a copy of it here. Don't know if it will work or not. I will be happy to send it in a private email if that is more helpful.
