Hello, fellow Colbaths! I have just started my family tree, so you may be seeing me in here in the near future. I don't really know much about my family on this side, so I'll need all the help I can get... Also, I am still trying to find out about the Colbath-Galbraith connection. I've contacted many people, but haven't recived many responses... I have some people telling me that 1) I'm not Scottish, and 2) I'm not connected with the Galbraiths - while others insist that I am... This is quite puzzling to me!

Dear April, Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you. I haven't been feeling too well lately. I have never been able to connect my Colbath family to any other colbath's. Part of the problem are all the spellings for the name. All I really have is a family register with my GGGGrandfather and his family on it. The information on the web, does not agree with the dates that I have. Part of my problem is that for the last 5 generations there have only been one or two children born into the family, so I have few near relatives in the Colbath line. I will be glad to correspond with you now that I am feeling better. I have posted a Gedcom file at Rootsweb, and have updated it recently. My Colbaths came from New Hampshire. There were originally two brothers who came from Ireland. One settled in NH and the other in Maine. The Galbraith connection comes from the author of a biographuy of Henry Wilson, who was Ullyses S. Grant's Vice President. Mr. Wilson was born a Colbath and for some reason changed his name before he went into politics. Of course the name was changed when the Galbraiths were thrown out of Scotland and settled in Ireland . Most seem to use the name Coolbroth, and I have found that name and numberous other spellings used in the North of Ireland.

Thanks for the response - it is good to hear from you, and I am glad you are feeling better! Yes, I know about Henry Wilson. I found him by complete accident one night while trying to find info. on the Colbath name. Now, I have no SOLID proof that I'm related to him, but the funny thing is, when I saw his photo online HE LOOKS JUST LIKE MY GRANDFATHER!! That's no exageration - it was spooky, like looking directly at my own grandfather...

Looking forward to hearing from you again! God bless & JESUS LOVES YOU!!!!!
