Charles is supposedly an ancestor of mine; although I don't know how to connect him. INfo would be greatly appreciated. I am the duaghter of Nelson Gatewood his mother - my grandmother was a famous hiker...Emma (Grandma) Gatewood. She was the first woman to hike the Appalachian Trail in the 50's. She was 65 the first time she hiked. My grandfather was Perry Gatewood. We're from Ohio. There were many borthers/sisters to Perry and he had 11 children (my father's brothers and sisters) 4 boys/7 girls - 9 are still alive the oldest is 93 the youngest is 72 (or close)...hardy stock. I'd like to trace the relationship to Charles. CAn you help? I have more ifno but don'
t want to clog up your email.

My great grandfather was Dewitt Clinton Gatewood he is a brother of Charles, their father was John Gatewood and Emily Bare, thus Charles Bare Gatewood in the Lt.'s full name, if you can get the book by Odie B. Faulk called the Geronimo Campaign you will read about Charles. We're all probally decendents of John Gatewood born in England in 1749, he and his wife Amy came to the states in the late 1700's he is buried in Essex Virginia.

Lillian,
We have a site, "The Gatewood Family Digs" that has a limited amout of stuff on Charles Bare Gatewood.
If you would like to visit the site, please let me know and I will issue you an invitation to see what we have. (The general public does not have access.) Quite a lot of his line is included in my Family file posted there. Most was furnished by his downline relatives and you will find some photos of Charles Bare Gatewood and descendents.
Let me hear if interested.

Hi Edward:
I read your message to Lillian and I, too, would be interested in viewing your site about The Gatewoods and Charles. My father is from a family of 15. His father is from a family of 5. We know only names of my grandfather's siblings, nothing else. Am interested in viewing some of the pictures because I do have a few pictures of "unnamed Gatewood family members." My grandfather lost contact with his family when he left the Arkansas area. His father was Green and his mother, Laura. Ironic that your name is "Edward". My father has a brother Edward and one of my grandfather's brothers was "Edward".
Any info you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, P.Gatewood-Summers
