Looking for an Andrew Hagen born approximately in 1883. His father was Syver Hagen, mother was Karen Anderson. Andrew was born in Norway, came to US about 1902. I have interesting information on this person.

This caught my eye as I am searching for a Syver Hagen. I am related to his brother, also named Andrew, so the name he chose for his son also interested me. Yes, this is a very interesting family if we both have the same Syver, and I would love to talk to you.

Yes, this truly is a unique family. I believe at the time I had not located my lost grandfather of 75 years. However, I just located him in June. He left Minnesota, a wife and nine children around 1925-1927. Never to be heard from. Anyway I would him via SS records in Portland, OR. I received a copy of his death certificate and it states he was never married and was in Portland 27 years. He left Minnesota as Andrew Syverson and was Andrew Hagen in Oregon. I have located his grave site and the funeral director. Only one of the nine children survives. Do you think there is a connection?

Well, that certainly sounds like my Hagen family! But, I am still stuck on Syver. I was told that he stayed in Norway. However, I have him listed on a 1920 census as living in the U.S. with his half-brother's widow. So, I have no information about him at all. At one point I thought that I accidentally found him living on a farm near Bemidji, Minnesota. I have no idea who he might have married and whether he had children or not, although I am presuming he did. I do have a picture of Syver -- quite a dashing guy. Can you tell me any more about your Andrew's father Syver?

Only that he lived in Norway and never came to the US. I believe they lived in Brummundahl, Norway. Was married to Karen Anderson. That's all I know. They had the following children Anton, Ole, Swen, Pernille and Andrew. Anton went to Canada, Ole and Swen were around Benson, MN; Pernille married and was in North Dakota and then Andrew!!

Thanks for the tip about a possible location. The Syver I am looking for was the son of Pernille. So, if his daughter was named Pernille, that would be following an old Norwegian custom of naming your children after their grandparents. Looks like it might be a match. But, you might want to verify that Syver did in fact never leave Norway, since that is what I was told also, and I now know it to be false.

Pernille

I have the following information on Syver Hagen was married to Karen Anderson lived in Norway @ Lerrhagen and Brummundal. They had the following children: Anton married Elina Evenson lived in Canada; Pernille, born 23-Oct-1880, married Christian Helgeson, they lived in North Dakota near the Canadian border; Andrew born 16-Jul-1883 married Marie Brothen (Braathen)02-Jan-1907; Ole vorn 29-Jun-1885 married Emma Oyen 25-Nov-1925; they lived around Benson, MN and they went by Severson. Sven for 08-May-1887, never married, he went by Hagen. You probably know scandivian (sp) tradition was to use father's first name and add son for a son and dotter for a daughter. Andrew was found in Portland as Andrew Hagen. An Oregon Cemetery Society has an unknown Ole Hagen and baby girl Hagen also unknown. This is about all I know. Interesting family...
