I am looking for information on the Hourigans who settled in Oswego, NY sometime between 1839 and 1848. From what I know John Hourigan (b 1815 in Ireland) was married to Catherine Willis (b 1817 in Ireland). They had 2 children born in County Tipperary, John J (b 1838) and Ann (b 1839), and six chidren born in Oswego - William, Maria, Catherine, Ellen, Margaret, and Elizabeth. I am not sure who compiled this information or how accurate it is, but any help would be appreciated.

I am also looking into the Hourigans from County Tipperary. Mine came by way of Canada into MI. However, we have a Thomas b. abt 1822 in Co. Tipperary, and if records I've found are correct, he had a brother John, born about 1825-1828, who also came to the USA. There were two brothers who left for Australia. They all seem to be the same family, but I'm still digging up documentation. Any info you have would be gladly accepted, and I'm happy to share what I know. Best Regards, Cinda

This is our family. You have loads of cousins in Oswego. Are you in touch with any of them at present? I do not live there, but I am in contact with one of them.
I also visit the family farm in Tipperary often and have pictures I can share with you.
John came from Townlough Upper, high above the Shannon, midway between Ballina and Portroe, Tipperary. It is gorgeous.
We have a few relatives left in North Tipp, but the Hourigan name has died out.

Hi,
Great old pictures of the Portroe Hourigans on line. (I assume you submitted them?) I was up in Killoran in 2006. First time in many moons. Im not cyber stalking you, just on a whim I put in "Portroe" for a search and Voila! a brand new listing.

Going on first trip to Ireland in August. I've been waiting all my life for this. Where is the family farm exactly? My grandfather was William John Hourigan of the Oswego Clan. My father Dick, and I am Katie. I haven't seen my many relatives' - beautiful Irish faces - in a long time and miss them dearly.
