Surnames: Mulhall, Coghlan, Joyce
My G G Grandmother was Miss Mary Mulhall (b.20 Jan 1847-County Westmeath,Ireland;d.1923-Victoria,Australia; m. Edmund Joyce in Australia)

Mary was the daughter of Mr Matthew Mulhall and Miss Margaret Coghlan.

Can anyone find any connections with this family? I'd particularly like to know more about Matthew and Margaret.
Thanks,
A. O'Brien, Australia

Some further information on this family

G G Grandmother Mary MULHALL born 20 Jan 1847 in County Westmeath. She had a sister Anne born abt. 1851 also in County Westmeath. Their parents were Matthew MULHALL and Margaret (nee COGHLAN). Both Mary and Anne emigrated to Australia in the 1860s.

I have found a Matthew MULHALL in the Griffith's Valuations in 1854, living in the townland of Lissakillen South, Civil parish of Bunown. He was one of only 3 MULHALLs in County Westmeath. I believe this may be my ancestor.

If you're able to help me your correspondence would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Further information -
Matthew m. Margaret Coghlan - his father was probably Patrick Mulhall and he probably had brothers John and Robert (also in Griffiths Valuations for County Westmeath)

Matthew's children were :
Mary (1846 Co. Westmeath - 1923 Victoria Australia) m. Edmund Joyce.
Anne (c1851 Co. Westmeath - 1885 Victoria Australia) m. William Hayes.
Kate (c1852 Co. Westmeath - 1894 Victoria Australia) m. Edmond Painter.
brother M (Matthew?) in Victoria Australia in 1894.

Thanks

Don't know whether there is any connection here but my great great grandmother, Margaret Gregan, was born in 1813 in WestMeath. Her husband was William Coghlan born Co. Carlow in 1812. On the English 1871 they were living in Manchester with their family (all the children having been born in Manchester). There was also a niece, Margaret Coghlan staying with them. She would have been born around 1852 in Co. Carlow. They also had a daughter called Margaret but she was born in Manchester around 1846.

Hi Derek,
Thanks for your message.
I would be very interested if you can find a connection.
I have found out that Mary was baptised in Tubberclare Catholic parish. Possibly there was another brother John Mulhall as well.
Regards,
A. O'Brien

Hi Marty,
Thanks for your message. I am still very interested in finding out more about my Mulhall ancestors.
I haven't yet found out the full name of the other Mulhall brother (M. Mulhall) who came to Australia, but he was possibly Michael rather than Matthew.
I look forward to hearing from you again,
Regards,
Aillin,
Australia
