Lavoche or Zavaze (towns)

Lavoche or Zavaze (towns)

Hello,

I've just found my great-great grandfather's application for U.S. citizenship. In this document he claims for be from Lavoche, Czecho-Slovakia and that his wife is from Zavaze, Czecho-Slovakia.

Their language was Slovak so I assume that those are towns in present day Slovakia. However, I can't find these towns on google maps at all.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Of course you will not find this location anywhere if this is not a correct spelling of a location in Slovak.

a guess on the spelling of the location that you have
Lavoche - Levoc'a
Levoča [spiš region]
1773 Leuschovia, Lőtse, Leütschau, Lewucža, 1786 Leutschau, Leutsovia, Lőcsche, Lewoče, 1808 Leutsovia, Lőcse, Leutschau, Lewoča, 1863–1913 Lőcse, 1920– Levoča [all the names this town was known by]
Zavaze? - Zavada,Spis region
Závada: 1773 Zawadt, Zawada, 1786 Zawada, 1808 Závada, Tscharneblod, 1863, 1877–1902 Zavada, 1873 Zavoda, 1907–1913 Lőcseszentanna, 1920–1976 Závada
another possibility could be
Závadka [spiš region]
1773 Zavadka, Zawadka, 1786 Zawatka, 1808 Závadka, 18763–1902 Zavadka, 1907–1913 Görögfalu, 1920– Závadka

Possible for you to share your ancestral surnames? Much easier to confirm the location by a surname.

Yes! The surname is Sariszki (changed to Sarisky then Sharkey in the U.S.).

My ancestors name was George Sariski and he came to the US in 1902 (so he technically emigrated from Austria).

Thanks!

You're welcome.

Your male ancestor's arrival manifest should say if he was going to his ?-in-law or who he left behind.
