Am looking for any information about the parents of Susan Vause, born about 1739, died 6-17-1805. Her parent's names, I believe are William Vause and Jemima Hedges.

Thank you,

No, I never did get any information. I've pretty much stopped my genealogy project after 20 years but if you have any information you could share, I would really appreciate it. My husband and his grandfather both have the middle name of Vause and that's really why we're so interested in the Vause line. Thanks!

Gene,

Thanks for your reply to my question. My grandmother's name was Susan Vause Inskeep. She was born in Oldfields, Virginia in 1839, probably named after her grandmother, the above Susan Vause who married Abraham Inskeep in 1764. I haven't been able to find out where the mother of the first Susan Vause came from. She was named Jemima Hedges, but does not seem to be connected to the Hedges family who came to New Castle, Delaware in the 1670's. I thought perhaps you might have additional information.

We have the same information. The only other thing I have is that Jemima Hedges' father's name was Solomon Hedges; however I don't have documentation for that.

Sounds like your Susan may be related to my Wm. Vause who married a Rachel Hedges in l763 in Hampshire Co. Va. Vauses, Hedges and Inskeeps all there at that time and later. Is this your area of origin? Have some info., want more Also have you checked Vause board at http://genforum.genealogy.com/vause/
Does Gene know where the info of her(Susan)parents being Wm. Vause and Jemina Hedges came from. I'm VERY interested.

The Jemima Hedges that I am looking for must have been born about 1710 to 1720. She could have been a sister of the Solomon Hedges born in 1710 in New Castle, Delaware. I can find nothing to this effect. So perhaps there was another Hedges family somewhere that hasn't been recorded. All I have is that she married William Vause and that they had a daughter named Susan Vause who married Abraham Inskeep about 1764.

This Susan Vause has been an enigma for me in my ancestry. Just tonight I tried to find all the references to Susan Vause (and parentage) and it seems to me that there were at least 3 Susan Vauses in that general time period. Here is what I have:

1. Susan Vause (b. 1739, d. 17 Jun 1805) m. 1764 to Abraham Inskeep (b. 23 Oct 1745, Burlington Co. NJ)
daughter of William Vause and Jemima Hedges
---- or ----
Ephraiam Vause (b. abt 1718 in Phildelphia) and Theodosia Hewlings (b. 1715 in Evesham, Burlington, NJ)

2. Susan Vause (b. abt 1740) m.abt 1766 Hardy County to Peter Harness (b. 1742 Hardy Co.) had 13 children

3. Susan Vause (b. 22 Apr 1783 in Hampshire Co, VA) daughter of
William Vause (b. 7 May 1741 in Frederick Co, VA) and Rachel Hedges (b. 20 Jan 1743 in Frederick Co, VA)

Now, the answer to who was Susan Vause's parents (the one who married Abraham Inskeep) is still open. I wonder if maybe the William Vause / (someone) Hedges connection has to do with #3 and not #1?

I would be interested in any proof someone has that the Susan Vause who married Abraham Inskeep had a mother who maiden name was Hedges.

I have a little booklet that was printed titled "Family History, Foster-Machir". I beleive it was written by Anna Shelby Foster, a granddaughter of Ann Machir for the purposes of membership in the DAR for descendants of Ann Machir and Thomas Randolph Foster, Sr.

It says:
"Abraham Inskeep was the fifth child of James Inskeep, born Oct. 23, 1745; died Sept. 15, 1823, married Suzan, daughter of William and Jemima Hedger Vause."

Our family line descends from Abraham and Susan's daughter, Rebekah (12-19-1770) who married James Machir.

My interest in Susan (Suzan) Vause is that my husband's middle name is Vause as was his grandfather's and this name appears no where else in the family history except for Susan. It's funny that Vause would be picked up as a name to use in 1868 - about 120 years later. I've been curious.

If you have more information on the Vause family, I would be very interested and I will share any other information you think may be helpful to you.

Gene,

I too am descended from James Machir and Rebekah Inskeep so that is why I am trying to work on this problem. Their oldest daughter, Sallie, married John Hopewell. My mother's maiden name was Hopewell.

I would be very interested in seeing that booklet. Is there any way you could make a copy? How long is it? When was it published?

I recently made a trip to Hardy County and did some research. I tried to find James Machir's grave, but was unsuccessful.

I don't have much information on the Vause family. That is why I am trying to sort out who was who and work from there.
