Surnames: Agee, Sumner
Dear Fellow Researchers,

I'm looking for information on REBECCA AGEE who married JOHN SUMNER in Sullivan Co., TN on March 13, 1881. John was b. @ 1823 in Floyd Co., VA and was said to be about 60 years old when he married a much younger Rebecca. I understand that Rebecca died in DICKENSON CO. and am looking for a death record for her. John died around 1900, either in DICKENSON CO. or Sullivan Co., TN, but I've found no death record for him in TN. I'd also be interested in knowing if there are census records 1880 - 1920 that show this couple and their children in DICKENSON CO.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. You can contact me directly at: irenenkent@cs.com

Surnames: AGEE (EAST?) SUMNER
Hi!

I am also looking for any information on Rebecca besides the bare minimum. I have not been able to find anything online. I have been trying to locate the identity of the man who she had an extra marital child (William Harvey Agee). I believe his name is James East but I am uncertain. Any help would be much appreciated!

It looks to me like Rebecca was still living with her parents in 1880 in Sullivan Co., TN

John W. Agee 47
Sarah Agee 47
Rebecca A. Agee 26
Margaret Agee 21
Thomas F. Agee 10
Samuel H. Agee 7
William H. Agee 1

It seems that by 1900 John is already dead, as Rebecca is listed a widow.

Rebecca Dec 1853
James P. Jan 1882 born in Virginia
Geo. W. Aug 1883
John W.Sep 1884
Mary E. Jun 1886
Henry D. Jan 1890
Grover C. March 1892
Andrew J. Apr 1896

It would seem John died sometime in 1895, probably in Dickenson Co., since all of the children were born in Va.

Records are very sketchy at the time. It just depends on who reported a birth, marriage or death. I don't think vital records were required until the early 1900s.

Henry Sumner, son of John and Rebecca, married Pricey Rose in Dickenson Co., VA., in 1908. He's on the 1910 census there. Henry died before 1918, as that's about when Pricey and Richard Fuller married.

Here is Pricey's Old Regular Baptist Church Obituary:

DIXON, Pricey Fuller B: around 1893; D: 22 October 1980. Parents: William Rose & Ruthie Moore. Married (1): Henry Sumner, 1909/1910.Children: Arvil, recently deceased, Dora, deceased in 1927. Married (2): Richard "Dick" Fuller. Deceased 1955. No children this marriage. 1 step-son: Fred M. Fuller. Married (3): Harmon Dixon who deceased 1973. Baptized: Around 1920. Written by her stepson, Fred M. Fuller.

I have never found any record of Arvil except for this one. Dora is on Pricey and Richard Fuller's 1920 census. Also Harmon Dixon should be Herman Dixon.
